Forums - Sales - Famitsu Sales (12/7 - 12/13)

Claude -

I am using Famitsu numbers that were updated 2 months ago for Vesperia. That is why I said there'd be a gap to similar to what they are now. The gap will get smaller than 150,000 for awhile, but I don't believe that Graces, given its debut, will outsell Vesperia week in and week out for a very long time.

Also, according to Famitsu, there is a 169,000+ unit gap from the October numbers versus the Graces estimates. That is a bit bigger than your 'barely a 150k gap now' quote.

Finally, if you really feel my numbers have no merit, then lets make an agreement:

You believe ToG will be within 150,000 of Vesperia for LTD #s by when? End of the year? 6 months into 2010? I will bet on the other side. Loser has to respond to a custom made post discussing this very argument.

MH isn't really an RPG. And the DS had more games than MH alone can compare to.

Tales games ARE locked at 200k-300k. ToV is actually at 312k - VGC is overtracking it by a bit.

What you're saying about DQ X on DS would make sense if the DS wouldn't get replaced until after DQ X and we know that won't happen.

Those 312k are from late october which is when it disapeared from the Famitsu top 30, but that doesn't mean that it suddenly stopped selling, and at the end of the year you will probably get top 100/500 list of best selling title's from Media-create and Enterbrain.

It's kinda sad that you are trying to put everything down related to Tales, just too make those Tales of Graces numbers look good. Fanboyism at is best.

lol. At the same time, not like ToG will suddenly stop selling either.

But yeah, it's just fanboyism...some people never let go it seems. I hope you realize I'd be saying the same exact thing regardless if I even owned a PS3. Why? Because it's valid and most Tales these days are selling exactly as I said because Namco are oversaturating themselves.

But what do I know, I'm just a stupid fanboy. Thank you for telling me this, all knowing one.

Be honest with yourself.  A year ago if someone had said Graces would have a lower first week than DotNW, you would have probably called them a troll, or something similar.  Even after the first day numbers came in you kept saying it was tracking higher, though I never quite understood why.  Now that they aren't that high it is apparently because tales is "locked" at 200-300k, even though 2 tales games passed 300k this year.  A spin off and a port.

That was even after defending DotNW's "low" sales due to the fact that it was a spin-off and that it was undershipped.

Just wondering, Claude:

What about Tales of Graces doing 300,000 being on the low end of your expectations?

"Vesperia movie isn't going to inflate Graces numbers. Sorry. Tales hasn't done anything like that since 2001.

I'd say 300k first week is more realistic. Maybe 350k"

Claude.

Soriku expected a little less in first week.

All these great numbers and everyone wants to single out and jump on Graces. This is just sad - everyone always wants to harp on Wii and Wii games.

I knew this thread would turn into this since people started pointing Graces out on the first page.

Jilarious!

When Vesperia PS3 numbers came in, Sony apologists sent damage control into overdrive. "Oh, those numbers are okay...for a lazy, late port that no one really wanted!" Now that Graces is on its first week, suddenly Vesperia's sales are the holy grail and it is the future of all RPGs everywhere for eternity.

Let's not forget that Vesperia is barely on par with Legendia, which was considered the low point for the series on PS2. Everything else sold oclose to or above 500k, so if you're using the decline of Tales but focusing on Graces and not acknowledging, say, Vesperia/Tempest/Hearts/Innocence, then you've clearly got an agenda.

What? Which PS3 Fans did that? If I remember correctly we were all saying YAHHH It almost did Half of what the 360 version Did world Wide for a year in only one day.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

I'll take that bet. Six months. Who's numbers are we going by? VGC, Famitsu, media create...?

Like I said when I entered the thread, I expected it to sell more like last gen's Tales games (PS2) than this gen's games (DS). I was wrong. My predictions were based on that belief. Since Vesperia, Innocence, and Hearts weren't picking up the slack, I thought Graces would and bring the series back to its former sales days. That didn't happen.

I have no idea what Namco is going to do. This is a franchise that use to sell 700k last gen and now has people singing praises when Vesperia sells roughly half of that. I hope they come up with an actualy direction. They haven't had one since last gen.

What i find more sad is the fact that people attack a person if his/her prediction on something was off, i just ask myself why ?? He isn't a prophet sheesh.

I think the fact that the series is niche and doesnt sell more than 500k tops just somehow flew from people's heads, it has at the end sold to the fanbase on the Wii, install base won't make a diffrence (if it did then the DS games would have sold 800k because the DS is "an RPG heaven" :/)

^^^ This is what you get for blowing a rumor out of proportion

Chocobo brain damage!!! Here, drink this diet Coke..*runs*

Currently playing :

VC - Ogre Battle March of the Black Queen
Wii - New Super Mario Bros. Wii
DS - Glory of Heracels

Btw if MHG(3 yr old port) ends up outselling ToG it just proves how big the MH fan base is on the Wii, and that messing around with that would be stupid by Capcom's part.

PS2 had 4 Tales over 500k, one of them over 760k, another around 685k (if you include best/director's cut stuff).  The PS1 games did really well also.  It is hardly a niche series.

@kopstudent

To be fair, Monster Hunter's best selling game is over 3.5 million.  Tales has never come remotely close to that.
