Forums - Gaming Discussion - The thing that pisses me off the most about game pirates...

Wow.
No, because it isn't ILLEGAL for people to be a plumber.

Nice try

My mistake, I thought we were interested in what is right, not what is legal.

So I guess you're saying piracy is wrong ... unless you're in international waters?

Oh my mistake, I didn't know you forgot that piracy is also immoral.

Reminds me of a discussion i had with a friend not too long ago actually.

I tried to explain why piracy isn't always the best option and simply buying the software is in everybody's best interest, but he just continued to say that he pirates because he'd rather spend his cash on other things (clothes etc.) and literally just doesn't want to buy games he can pirate because he is selfish, using the age old arguments such as "i'm just one person, it doesn't matter" and "somebody else has bought the game so it cancels it out".

I understand that there are many reasons why one would pirate games... it's just a lot of the time none of these reasons are why games are being pirated in the first place.

How technical is your game?

I see. Piracy is immoral because it's immoral. Well I'm convinced.

^Wow, nit pick all you want but it doesn't change that fact that piracy is illegal and immoral and not in the best interest of anyone but the pirate. People are not entitled to free software even if it sucks and they "weren't going to buy it anyway".
Fact is you actually have to pay for something that isn't freeware.

I wrote this a few posts back:

Downloading gives us the option to spend the money on the developers that deserve our money as we save money from not buying crap games that we later regret buying and then cant afford to buy something we actually like.

Downloading gives the power back to the consumer. The exception in this are those who download and never pay for anything and I am fine with that as long as i can download games and buy the ones that are well deserved of mine hard earned money.

There is nothing immoral about downloading and its not illigal everywhere, just because its illegal in the US doesnt make it illegal everywhere.

Now the world is weird  and people take Prozac  to make it normal.

Is marijuana the best medicine?

“If any creator has not played Mario, then they’re probably not a good creator. That’s something I can say with 100 percent confidence. Mario is, for game creators, the development bible.

^I never said it was illegal everywhere or any of that nonsense, I said that it is not right.

And "Downloading gives us the option to spend the money on the developers that deserve our money as we save money from not buying crap games that we later regret buying and then cant afford to buy something we actually like."

That's why you rent and read reviews. If you buy a bad game then it's your loss, sell it to someone else that might enjoy it.
The world doesn't revolve around your every need, you win some and you lose some.

@CommonMan

I was confused cause rarely do I meet a pirate which has the "world owes me something" attitude.

The following are most common in North America.

1. Cheap father that buys a modded system and 30 burned games so he doesnt have to buy games for his son

2. The tech guy that likes to hack things and likes to attempt to make PS2s play Xbox games...lol

3. the poor student living on campus who can't afford food let alone games

4. Import freak that like manga and japanese stuff which dont come to USA

5. Collector which doesn't like to open and scratch his game

Okay, cool. My personal experience is I have 3 friends with banned boxes at the moment, and their reasoning for modding was because they pay for live and map packs, so it's okay to steal the games. Because apparently they are "owed" free games. I guess I just generalized from there.

lol, yeah thats silly of them. Tell them that you paid for the car, and you want free gas! See what they think... :)

Do you mind making a copy of your gas for me?

I don't mind because im a nice guy.

But now that I know you can make gas copies I won't want to pay for it myself in the future...

I just gotta add that I don't really care much if you pirate, it just doesn't make sense to me when people try to justify it.
