Forums - Gaming - Uncharted - Could it become one of the greatest gaming series of all time?

Back on topic, Uncharted has a long ways to go before it touches the elite franchises like Half-Life, Warcraft, or even Halo... Uncharted is a fun series but I don't see it blowing up that big... and even if it does, there's a good chance it goes the way of Tomb Raider if they try to milk it. The serial adventure formula gets old quickly, contrary to what some of you around here seem to think. It's fun for awhile but it doesn't have the same traction that an overarching storyline found in HL or Halo does... and even Halo's story is fizzling with its fourth installment.

Tomb Raider added pretty much nothing new from game to game. It wasn't that great to start with, of course.

Judging by the amount that was added from Uncharted to Uncharted 2, I don't see the series going down that road.

Obviously, it's no Warcraft, or Gran Turismo, or Halo...yet. Or Half-Life, for that matter. They've all had more games. Except Half Life, but then those two expansions are pretty much games in themselves, so four.

I disagree with some of the people in this thread in that I think Gears could last LONGER than Uncharted and still remain somewhat fresh. What happens if in the third game, the humans discover where the Locust came from and launch an offensive? That's another two games, easily, all with vastly different weapons, environments, enemies, and even characters if they wanted to go that route.

I don't think I'll care about Nathan Drake if he's still prancing around an exotic locale looking for another buried treasure for the fifth time but put me on the Locust home world and I'm all over it.

I'm pretty sure Drake isn't human (he jumps two metres backwards while hanging then absorbs bullets like a sponge and then REGENERATES), so we could go to his home world and look for treasures there.

Unless rocketpig can come up with a better reaction to that I declare that Kantor wins the thread.

And other times, he can barely jump six inches without grunting and dying spectacularly.

I think he's a meth addict, personally. It explains his obsession with the theft of shiny objects.

This is a good response. Funny stuff Kantor!

Also, rocketpig, I think the general gist of the Gears of War story is that Sera IS the Locusts homeworld, and the human's are the invaders.

Common, yeah, that's definitely the way the series appears to be leaning but I'm not sold on it.

Anyway, not saying they SHOULD go that route, just that they could... I'm a fan of ending series while they're on top so I'd like to see Gears wrap up soon.

He also goes through massive mood swings. One minute he's saying "WTF Flynn we can't kill people!", then pulls somebody off a building five minutes later, and doesn't feel the slightest bit of remorse when he kills thousands upon thousands of defenceless mercenaries and even a bunch of ancient tribal defenders.

So, he's a schizophrenic, alien, meth addict. Nobody say Drake is a boring character again.

Sometime I'll have to get around to playing the Uncharted games over the winter break. I'm not excited about the prospect of fighting zombie Nazis again but I'll keep an open mind.

I do agree with the sentiment that franchises like this should wrap it up before the concept gets stretched too far and then don't come back to revisit it later. (Crystal Skull would be the appropriate analogy here)

I give this thread a 9.7.

Thank god for the disable signatures option.

You forgot to mention he has an amazing ass... its an important characteristic you know.
