Gears shouldn't go any further than 2 iterations.

Uh, and leave the entire story hanging forever? That doesn't make much sense...

Agreed, needs to be one more, two at most lol. Dontcha just love what some people say rocketpig?

No, most of the time I don't. Especially if it makes no sense.

Well I was being sarcastic but thats the internet for you unfortunately. There seriously need to be a "kick" button that mods can press, where a boot appears and kicks those people straight in the face.

Back on topic, Uncharted has a long ways to go before it touches the elite franchises like Half-Life, Warcraft, or even Halo... Uncharted is a fun series but I don't see it blowing up that big... and even if it does, there's a good chance it goes the way of Tomb Raider if they try to milk it. The serial adventure formula gets old quickly, contrary to what some of you around here seem to think. It's fun for awhile but it doesn't have the same traction that an overarching storyline found in HL or Halo does... and even Halo's story is fizzling with its fourth installment.

Oh well it is definitely not there yet IMO, I just personally see it as having great potential. I put my trust and faith in Naughty Dog, I sincerely think they can bring Uncharted to that kind of status. Uncharted may never have the sort of popularity and sales the bigger games have but it can no doubt have the quality (In which you can already argue Uncharted 2 has shown already.)

I know you were being sarcastic. I was being a smart-ass right back at ya. :)

Oh, it's definitely a fun series that delivers solid gameplay and that Indiana Jones feel to it. It has a few faults but overall, I don't have much bad to say about the games and Naughty Dog will probably end the series before it starts to grate on me.

Still, I just don't see it entering legendary status. That sort of thing is usually found in games that use an overarching storyline, not a serial formula.

I think you can put groundbreaking gameplay and/or no real story on the list of games that acheive it, like Mario or Zelda. Uncharted/2 are great games though, no doubt about that.

I was completely excluding the old Big N franchises. Those are in a class of their own and I don't see anyone replicating their success in the forseeable future, especially a franchise that caters to the crowd that Uncharted does (namely, a branch of the shooter crowd).

I have to agree with rocketpig here, they are in a whole different level of status. However I still have to say that I believe Uncharted could very well reach legendary status if future titles are executed perfectly. It has the gameplay, it has the storyline, sure its not over-reaching but these games still have fantastic stories.

There again who's to say another enemy can't be presented in the Gears storyline? Or who's to say the conclusion of defeated the Locust (for being a fan of Gears, you sure can't remember the enemy's name well) will end in the 3rd entry into the series?

Drake certainly seems to have a good connection with "last year's model", perhaps the 3rd will conclude that Drake should settle down with the only riches he needs (if you catch my drift).  You see, I can draw up ideas for whether or not a series should be extened as well

Could, yes, but it doesn't have to.

Alien invasions don't go on forever. Either the Locust die, or the Humans die. Inevitable. And if the Locust die and MORE aliens/whatever appear, I'm pretty sure Fenix would just kill himself.

Treasure hunting adventures can be numerous. Drake can always discover new treasures to find, for as long as Naughty Dog wants to make the series. Thousands of years of mythology from dozens of different cultures, as I said. He's only done El Dorado and Shambhala/Cintamani so far.

Okay it's inevitable that either Humans or Locust will die but who are you to say that story can only last for another entry into the series?  There's many other facets that could be explored in the Gears series that could keep on going possibly long after Drake's discovered everything from the Crystal Skull to the Flying Dutchman.

Who's to say Drake can be the only adventurer who finds these numerous artifacts? Can't another dev. make some other type of gun-toting character to find ancient treasures as well?  Once again, anyone can draw up ideas for whether or not a series should be extended as well.

Not necessarily another entry, I didn't say it had to be a trilogy. But I think we can safely assume that there are more mythological treasures to be found than plot twists in a not-alien invasion.

They could draw it out for another 10 games, but it's highly unlikely. Not that Uncharted will last ten games, probably 5 or 6.

Maybe or maybe not, neither of us know that and the point I'm still driving is anyone can draw up ideas for wanting a certain series to keep going after the usual 3 iterations.  Sure there's still other mythological treasures (probably only a few left since Lara Croft or Indy have discovered many others) but that doesn't mean Drake should find them all.  Either way both series should just end at 3 PLUS a good helping of Uncharted Intense Hollywood-type Racer and then ND should move on.

ND could wrap it up in one more game, or go the R&C approach and make 8+ iterations. It is the sort of franchise that could handle that. Not saying it will, or even that it should, just that it could.

I agree here, I personally think 5 or MAYBE 6 games would be the sweet spot for Uncharted. 5 I think would overall be best, then again it depends on how future iterations are received by the gaming community.
