Forums - Gaming - Uncharted - Could it become one of the greatest gaming series of all time?

Sure I may be jumping the gun here, but there is no doubt that Uncharted 2 will be winning the majority of the "Game Of The Year" awards for 2009 among others.

But what this thread is about is the potential that the Uncharted series has to truly become "Great." I'm not necessarily talking about sales here, even though Uncharted franchise could possibly become a beast. What I am saying is will this series go down in history? Will it be quoted by future gaming communities as true examples of gaming nostalgia like we do so often today with past generations of games?

Naughty Dog is no doubt one of the best development teams out there. They are know for creating franchises such as Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter. But the Uncharted series is showing why Naughty Dog is truly one of the best out there.

What happens if Uncharted 3 is even better then 2, critically and sales wise? What if Uncharted 3 becomes one of, if not the, highest rated game of all time?

Sure there is allot of speculation here but it can't help but be wondered. Naughty Dog may just have captured lightning in a bottle with Uncharted. Who knows what will happen next, only time will tell. But what do you, the VGChartz community think? Can Uncharted become one of the greatest gaming series of all time? So lets discuss this, and of course bring in some other great series into this discussion for comparison purposes, this is of course why its in the gaming discussion after all.

I doubt it, it has one, *maybe* two good games left in it before they really should move onto something else.

...

er, nevermind, I r stooped. I thought you meant long running franchise for some reason. Yeah, I'm sure the third one will be big being at least as good as the previous ones and I'm pretty sure it will stop there except for maybe a PSP spin off.

Haha no worries. And I agree, however I can see it going on to possibly a fourth.

I do agree with Twesterm though.... both Gears and Uncharted should stop at their third iteration.

I agree on gears but it could be argued differently with Uncharted. The Gears world doesn't have as much room for expansion as Uncharted IMO. There are still so many uncharted places and adventures to see. As long as Naughty Dog keeps it up with the standards of 2 I say hell, why not keep going, obviously don't milk the franchise, but maybe go a few more games after 3.

Going by ND's record, after U:3, we will get Uncharted Racing on PS3 then no game until PS4 which will be a new game altogether.

It'll be held in a higher regard than Crash & Jak ever were, both being overshadowed by Mario. Uncharted isn't overshadowed by anything in the same genre. I suspect UC 3 will be the last so ND can move on and if that can match or exceed Among Thieves- then sure it can become one of the greatest.

Naughty dog always does just 3 games (not counting racing spinoffs). Naughty Dog stopped Crash Bandicoot after 3 and they stopped Jak and Daxter after 3.

They know when to quit, trust me, they won't milk this series.

Im hoping Uncharted becomes Sony's new main franchise behind GT, they dont milk it... And the quality keeps as high as, or close to Uncharted 2.

It has every chance of being up there quality-wise with the Zelda's, Half Life's, Halo's, Mario's etc.

And hopefully, with Uncharted 2's critical acclaim... The series will also take off sales-wise too.

They have already stated to want to do more Nathan Drake's as long as fans want them though

I agree that U2 was a very good game but it doesn't deserve GOTY. NSMBWii does.
NSMBWii brought a lot more new things than U2 did.

OT:

Agreed with twesterm that Uncharted series should and probably will stop after the third iteration. Gears shouldn't go any further than 2 iterations.
