^Nah, Wii will beat the PS2, and if you include handhelds, then so will DS

What you should say is nothing will beat the DS, that thing will sell pretty much as long as Nintendo wants it to



 

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

I think it will for the silmple fact that it's already about half way there. It also depends though on next year. Next year the Wii will have a very strong line-up of games, it's best yet. If the Wii is down YOY next year then I can safely say NO, it won't outsell the PS2. The Wii's biggest problem is not enough consistant great software, now if that is fixed and it still can't outsell it's last years sales then I don't possibly see what could lift sales and if it's sales aren't lifting then they are declining. The Wii seems to be the type of product that when it declines it declines at faster rate than normal. It reaches out to a crowd that doesn't neccesarily thrive off needing to play games but that's just my logic.

If most things go right for the Wii I believe it will outsell the PS2, not deservingly though IMO. The PS2 is just...king.

No, not because of the number of users though. It won't out sell PS2 because most PS2 gamers had at least 2 or 3. Will Wii surpass PS2 user base. Yes by a long shot. but I don't think the PS2 had much more than 40-50million users.

Just an opinion and if actually love to see hard facts of how many actual PS2 owners there were.



Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Well, it certainly can. I dunno if it will, but it can. It's still tracking ahead of PS2 month to month, despite it's big YOY decline.

Really depends on how long Nintendo keeps it on market, if they jump to Wii's successor it probably won't, if they gold out it probably will.

based on your theory there are 20 million 360 users. Wow, the PS2 and 360 must be so hardcore with those kinds of attach rates.

Ok.

How about the fact my fat PS2 had two useres ? once i was done with it my brothers kid took it.

Maybe those 133m PS2 had over 200  300 500 million users or ever more.

Funny enough, Nintendo uses this argument all the time with Wii, claiming a higher than average userbase versus other console.  They released some of their internal stats in their last annual report iirc.
