It's surprising how small the sales are for Sony's first-party games are compared to third-party. I mean the best selling first-party game is at 6 and it probably wouldn't even have gotten there if it wasn't for bundling and the fact it pretty much had zero competition when it came out.

Lol....again with this warped sense of thinking. Tell me, what 1st party exclusives, besides Halo, have done gangbusters on the 360? By that, I mean sold at least 5mill.

Microsoft is able to take a game like Fable 2 in a genre that is niche compared ot the FPS one and manage to make it sell almost as much as Sony's best selling PS3 first-party game and if you exclude bundles it probably comes surprisingly close to passing it.

Right. Now explain Uncharted. It's not exactly in a big selling genre either. Look at how it's doing, WITHOUT bundles.

The game is getting Game of the Year awards and a lot of attention.  If it was a Microsoft tentpole title it would be a safe bet to say it would be selling a lot more right now.  Microsoft just seems to be better at advertising their big AAA games.

Microsoft is better at advertising, nobody's arguing that. It still doesn't change the fact that the majority of both of their franchises sell comparably, which is the point.

but the games in discussion dont sell because of advertising. Fable, Halo, Gears......Fable i didnt see anything, and Gears and Halo feed a userbase who is foaming at the mouth for those types of titles. Its teh userbase not the marketing, imo.

Gears 1-2.  Microsoft's top 5 (Halo 3, Gears, Gears 2, Fable II, ODST) would rank ahead of Sony's 1st (Resistance).

They would untill Sonys GT comes and out ranks them all.

By the way other then Gears and Halo a 40$ demo of a Sony game out sold all other MS 1st party games this gen.

No, it didn't actually.  Forza 2 also outsold it.

So why is Forza3 1/3rd the franchise Gran Turismo is.

F3 has the quality, so why cant it do anywhere near GT numbers, where are the Halo like sales ?  Why cant MS push a sim anywhere as good as Sony can.

Ummm: BESIDES Halo and Gears, what do we have:

- Fable (3.27mill). Uncharted 1 will reach this number as will Uncharted 2. Basically, COMPARABLE sales of 1st Party games. You just reitreated my point.

I find it funny you would put those games, some from the same franchise, up against ONE of sony's IPs. Talk about the mother of all cherry pickin'.

Sorry, I didn't realize you'd already pointed out Gears (wasn't mentioned in your post).  And I meant to put Forza 2, not Fable II.

I think at the end of next fiscal year, when we look back at 5m+ sellers we'll be left with...

PS3: GT5

360: Halo 3, Reach, ODST, Gears, Gears 2

Well, one would expect a full game to outsell a "glorified demo", a demo that STILL sold comparably to a full release: (of course brand power had a hand in that as well).

But of course that's besides the point.

I wouldn't disagree.  Calling GT5P a demo is underselling it a bit though imo, it's not a full sequel but it's pretty dense still.

Im still waiting for the link...

CGI asked what other "1st Party" titles by MS sold 5m+ besides Halo and ppl are so quick to mention Gears......now I ask give me a link where it clearly statest that Gears IP is owned by MS no buts.

Actually an article gave out the figure uncited.  Turn 10 themselves haven't commented on exact figures afaik?

So its 2 franchises vs 1. Youre taking the biggest 2 franchises and comparing it to Sonys, You will see God of War 3 on that list as well as a possible 5 million seller based on VGC not tracking other regions on the first two.

Sorry, not a strong argument.

If anything as a gamer it bugs me. I dont want 3 GT games in 3 years but if somehow it happened youd see all 3 GT's on the PS3 list and if we had 2 God of War games youd see those two as well.

Gears IP is owned by Epic.  Microsoft has an exclusive license for the first 3 games based on the property.

How many of the cars and tracks in Gran Turismo are Sony owned btw?  If we're doing 1st party by "ownership", how well do you think a GT utterly devoid of licenses would sell?
