I think it suffers from Tomb Raider without the boobs.

Right, except Uncharted DESTROYS Tomb Raider in sales, "without the boobs".

...what?

Well, if talking multiplat and past sales, Tomb Raider is ahead. Hopwever, look at Uncharted sales on PS3 vs Tomb Raider. That's what I'm talking about, Tomb Raider is on a series decline.

Oh, so you mean Uncharted DESTROYS Tomb Raider['s recent games on PS3]. Ok, because Tomb Raider was pretty much the most mainstream game series out there for a certain time*, it even had ads for completely unrelated products based on it (Lucozade).

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Being exclusive is holding Naughty Dog back from the greatness they deserve.

And how many more millions would Gran Turismo sell, if it were also on the XBox 360?  Good exclusive games can exist.

its amazing how much pachter has to say,iv never seen an anylast say so much about things and get so little right

Yeah, I mean it's not like they just won GOTY or anything...

Seriously, if they weren't first-party, they wouldn't have pulled off such an amazing technical feat.

LMAO at the people saying "naughty dog said they would be happy with 2.5 million sold"

Have you ever heard of public relations? What else are they gonna say?

The ps3 install base has grown by about 10 million since UC1 released, the game is being advertised like crazy, it got OUTSTANDING REVIEWS and it has TONS of media hype.

Be reasonable, sales of this game so far have been extremely disappointing. Deep down in their hearts, every sony fan/employee knows it

Naughty Dog must be very sad when they are making a profit already. Poor Naughty Dog, Sony must be sad too. I pity them. Deep down their hearts they must be very sad but hey! look on the bright side Uncharted 2 will also stop selling tomorrow so they must be freaking happy. Lucky them!

Financially it's probably a dissapointment. The development costs and the big marketing were huge for this game.

Boneyboy does have a point. The game had everthing going for it. It did good, not great.

I guess this proves again that reviews don't affect sales too much.[/qoute]

Uncharted was only 20 million to make. Assuming that they getting $30 for every copy

Let's do the math- 30 X 1.5 million = 45000000

Here's a link I found.  http://socialexec.com/2009/02/07/development-uncharted-2-cost/

Marketing could add another 20 million of costs. UC2 had a Big marketing push.

30 dollar  profit per sold seems high. If it were that high, then a lot gamecompany's wouldn't have gone bankrupt.

Uncharted 2 is also bundled a lot which means it's sold under it's price. I'm not sure by how much but profits from bundles will be low.

The loss taken from bundles would be attitributed to loss on hardware, not the from the game.

and Uncharted 2 only making $30 is a very conservative number.

If it continues like UDF then it's all good.

off topic: I have a feeling that we might be setting ourselves for a disappointment with GOW3 sales.

I expect 2 - 3 Million LTD for it

tell this to people like kantor who feel it will do 3 - 4 Million & will somehow beat the GOW1 & GOW 2 sales

God Of War actually isn't that "big"

good lord... finally some one else who sees logic in all the insanity... God of War isn't a huge game... it did decent numbers for a console that had over 100 million units.

piracy took sales away. so did releasing 2 games on the ps2 when all current console were out

PIRACY HUH???

XBOX 360 is pirated yet it has the most software sales and the highest attach rate in console history.

I think I cleared this up to you before.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Gamecompany?  I am confused? by gamecompany you mean like SE, Activsion or EA? If it is then, Sony doesn't get the whole $30 they only get a small fraction of it.

Since Uncharted 2 is a First party game $30 is seems about right, no royalties whatsoever and also I think Thesource mention $38? not so sure about that.

As for the advertising budget I can't comment on how much budget Sony use for uncharted. Let's just use your 20 million theory. That leaves about 5 million profit and remember uncharted 2 is still selling.

Yeah, I meant gamestudio's.

Even if the advertising buget is 20 million. Then the current profits could still be undercut by the bundling loss. ( Although i don't know if Sony itself takes that for their account. It could be. )

My point was that it wasn't going to make profits (off course it will) but that it would make little profit for a first-party game. Sony does need gamessales to comepensate for the PS3 loses. And first-party should be a big part of that.

Forgot to address this one. There's was no serious bundling for uncharted 2. Last time I heard it was only bundle to 250 gig models and it was only limited. It was also not bundled in the important day in USA the black friday. Unless you can show me that uncharted 2 have a major bundling?

I also being conservative with the numbers it already sold 1.97 million already. Even if there's adjusment to be made it will be only 100k+ less. Just do the math my friend. Like I said this will continue to sell. BTW that's only sold to consumers not the retailers, so just imagined they shipped more than that.

Really Pachter? It looks like it is doing well to me:

To the logical posters. Keep up the good fight.
