Advance Wars for Ds, Warcraft 3/Age of empires/Command and conquer on Pc,Final Fantasy Tactics and Disgaea on PSP and Ds.

 Never played Men of War, but Sword of the Stars and Sins of a Solar Empire are both amazing space strat games.

 Also Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance is a must play, and can also be had for low low priced via DD these days. Unlike the previously mentioned it takes place planetside, and is basically an epic outsized CnC with much larger scale and scope, is optimized for dual monitors if you have then and also optimized for quad core CPUs.

 Between these 3 games,  a strategy gamer has plenty of epicness ahead of them, more than enough to last until march when we get CnC4, SC2 and SC2 ( Starcraft 2 and Supreme Commander 2.... )

CIV4 is awesome as is a smaller strategy game called Diplomacy.

Diplomacy also exists in a similar form in Facebook. I'm SuperChunk in both areas. Really fun game and very strategic.

@ Majin - I'm looking for good games compared to today's standards. Starcraft was good for it's time, but has been bested several times. Since you compared Heroes of Might and Magic to Starcraft, I will assume it falls under the same category.

@ Pearl Jammer - I've owned and played the Warcraft games. I often cite Warcraft III as the way a strategy game should be made, so good choice. I also own and love Sins of a Solar Empire, though online people tend to crank up the speed all the way, which ruins the game for me. It turns into a "send your units into the enemy and hope you win" instead of a micromanagement contest.

@MIAUS - yes! that is exactly what I was looking for. It's kinda like the old Super Conflict for SNES, but hopefully doesn't suck like it did.

at this point I kinda stopped looking at lists that just names a few games with no descriptions. Don't have that kinda time.

@ Simulacrum - Final Fantasy Tactics isn't strategy, it is an RPG on a grid. Don't get me wrong, I liked the original on the PS1. Isn't Disgaea the same thing?

Does anybody know of any other games that use ferry? I'm not a big RTS fan but I liked the ferrying system in SupCom. Full-zoom out/in is nice too.

I like Heroes II Better, but yea, Heroes III is the peak of the series, excellent game in all regards.

I'd suggest Supreme Commander, easily my favorite RTS so far. (MTW2 Being my favorite TBS)

It's slightly different from the collect resources/build base/storm enemy with thousands of orcs/win game, it's much more tactical than that.

Also very realistic since bigger gun = destroys smaller vehicles instantly
not your average command and conquer where a mammoth tank has trouble with one machine gun-soldier.

I know you're a PC strategy game player, but you have a ps3. Did you ever consider Valkyria Chronicles? It's simple and not really big on micro-management, but damn the game is fun!!
