I'd suggest Supreme Commander, easily my favorite RTS so far. (MTW2 Being my favorite TBS)
It's slightly different from the collect resources/build base/storm enemy with thousands of orcs/win game, it's much more tactical than that.
Also very realistic since bigger gun = destroys smaller vehicles instantly
not your average command and conquer where a mammoth tank has trouble with one machine gun-soldier.
