Forums - Sales - RE:DSC 3rd week barely beats Extraction's 10th in America's

Even considering that VGChartz is likely overtracking RE by double it still managed to only pull in a thousand more in NA compared to the flop that is DS:E. Sure Extraction may have seen a price cut, and the game should haave legs considering it quality. But still call me shocked.

If I were Capcom I'd be pretty unhappy with a massive sales falloff in such a short time, during the holidays, and on a system knows for its legs. WHile I have no doubt RE will beat Extraction in the end, I never expect to see a 3rd week as bad as it is. And lets not even talk about others.

As a side note I really enjoyed both of these games, so no I'm not trying to make a point about the Wii or it's games. Just really dissapointed in the performance of both of these titles. What do you guys think? Fluke, pricing, oversaturation of railshooters, or something else?

They should take this as a sign that gamers have had their fill of the on rails shooter for the most part. They won't see it as this and say that mature games do not sell on Wii.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Actually sales seem over tracked, NPD has it below 40k for November. So overall this game didnt really perform

Edit: Sry I see you mentioned that, my bad. But yeah they should be disappointed

Indeed. I saw that too. I thought the brand alone would push this to at least hold its first 3 weeks considering many other games are even seeing increases.

Others is so abismal that I'm hoping its a typo. And yes I know it was only first day, but look at UC.

Edit: Re-write

Edited.
I'm also starting to think that onrails shooters is not the way to go anymore. Wii gamers want more but arent getting anything anymore. I'm not saying RE:DC is a bad game, but just not what the mainstream wants

I said it in another thread, but Wii owners seem to be rejecting lightgunners out of principle at this point. I expect Capcom and cavia to go full 3rd person shooter next round anyway though, but this probably just cements that.

They just don't care about them.

Make a proper game, with proper quality and marketing, and you will sell a million.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

I agree with you mostly. But looking at Cabela's Big Game Hunter it seems the genre can still sell quite well- also the new Nerf is showing some great legs as well. Now of course these games are casual, but so is RE to some extent. What I mean by that is it has a lot of crossover similar to Halo or Mario. Again I think the curious part is how little the branding did to move this game. Essentially in its 3rd week one of the biggest gaming brands is barely ahead of what is essentially a generic shooter to most people who are unfamiliar with the Dead Space brand.

I guess I thought like Sonic games RE would sell well not matter what.

Don't light-gun shooters sell the most at a lower price point? Who usually drops $50 on one of these?

It's only 3 weeks; lets wait a while before dropping the "D" word (Doom)

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

Compare it to UC though. That was also full priced. Also I'm not saying the game is doomed, or a failure. I'm sure Capcom will make a tidy prodit over the longer term. I mean we know Wii games have great legs and I would have to be a troll to discount that. Still the fact that it quite likely may drop below DS:E next week (NA) in only its 4th week is pretty unimpressive.

I do think you are right about the price point. Overkill vs HotD 2&3 Return seems to suggest that $50 is too high for many consumers. Personally I get more enjoyment hours of of rail games than nearly any other genre I play, but many clearly aren't like me. It would be interesting to see somebody try and launch a new quality railshooter at $30-$40 and see if they can make more via volume.
