I hope so. Final Fantasy is the cream of the crop as far as gaming is concerned.

Actually FFXIV is expected to release next year, and hopefully versus the year after that. I'm guessing a main installment in the main single player series will not be out untill at least 2012...if this gen at all.

The most amazing thing about the series, coming from one of its biggest fans, is that they literally re-invent themselves for every new installment. New world, new characters, new story, new enemies, new battle system, new EVERYTHING. They are extremely brilliant and creative. This is why they can branch out from a game like Final Fantasy VII, or X, or XIII, and create an entire series based on one of the installments. In the world of Final Fantasy, we also have our constants: Chocobo's, Summons, Moogles, etc., which give all of the games some form of commonality (if that's even a word). It is truly the best video game series every, and with FFXIII around the corner, I'm sure I'm not the only one this excited. @Darth - I never knew it was the second biggest franchise. What's the first? Pokemon? Mario? |
According to Wikipedia it's the 6th biggest

I completely disagree I do not buy ANY FF spin offs (I got FF4 DS & FF7:CC...so 1 spin off & 1 remake) & most people don't Main series wise they are anything but saturated, since FF10 we have been getting one every 4 years that is not saturated at all. I prefer a 2 year gap between main FF releases |
But you just proved that the Final Fantasy brand is oversaturated. You stated you don't buy just any of the spin-offs they produce of the series. And you probably don't buy every sequel, prequel or remake either. Since hardly anyone can....that's called over-saturation.
When there's been multiple ports and remakes of the same game released in one generation (such as FFI, FFIV and FFV) or tons of spin-offs and sequels to one game (do I need to go into all the junk connected to FFTactics and FFVII?), then the series is over-saturated and not even a dedicated fan can go out and buy every game tied to the series.
Just because the gap between main games has been growing larger, they've just filled that gap with literally multilpe new FF games a year. That's the exact definition of over-saturation as the average gamer isn't going to make a major distinction between 'Final Fantasy IV DS', 'Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions' and 'Final Fantasy XIII'. Everything is just yet another Final Fantasy game to the avg gamer. Especially now that they've already announced 4-5 games connected to FFXIII...before its even come out.
Dont we run the risk of FF becoming the computer game eqivalent of Hello World ?
