Matt didn't have a "meltdown". He has been IGN Nintendo editor forever, since the very start, and he has ALWAYS been this dumb and whiny. All the way back on the N64, he was spewing the same exact crap. The man is a little, unintelligent child, caught in a fatt, ugly body.

Sure they were trying to be funny I think but they come off as nothing but jerks. Professional and these people shouldn't be linked. I have issues with Gamespot in the past but I've never gotten this feeling with them and their reviews. Same for Gametrailers. I try to make up my own opinion and not just take their reviews for granted but they are far more reliable then IGN is and have been for a long time. I've taken back to reading gaming magazines instead. Though one has to be careful there as well. Nintendo Power is my Nintendo magazine of choice. I used to read PSM during the PS2 years but not sure how they are anymore. Will have to buy one to see. IGN on the whole deserves their lose of traffic. |
Franlkly, and I say this as someone who is a fan of Gametrailers and who has been calling out IGN on their stupidity since last gen, but all online and magazine review sources have their own bias and points where they downscore one thing over another (aka favoratism). Overwhelmingly this gen, the favoratism has been shown toward the HD consoles and PSP, seemingly because of its emphasis on graphics, higher amount of variety in games deemed 'hardcore' and because the games are more heavily marketed. This includes sites like IGN, GameSpot and even the one site I go to, Gametrailers. Which have all been heavily downscoring Wii and DS titles citing 'lack of graphical power and mixed innovation' and upscoring games on the HD systems and PSP citing 'amazing graphics and overwhelming innovation'.
While I highly debate the claims that many of the HD games this gen have done new things compared to previous gens, its easy to see why reviewers are focusing on those systems and downscoring the Wii and DS games. The 'core' players are the ones who read reviews. As well as the ones who go out and buy games for the 360 and PS3, as they feel those are the 'hardcore' systems.
Does this mean its justified that these sites downscore Wii and DS games? Hell no. They should still lose readers for their actions. I say they should lose even more credibility for their stupid actions and should be held accountable even for the junk they were pulling back in the GameCube/PS2/XBOX/GBA generation. But since no one seemed to care about it then, at least some people are opening their eyes now.

Not that I care about IGN, but Alexa is relatively unreliable. They base their numbers on the people that have the Alexa toolbar. Who's to say those people are the representation of the entire audience that visits (or visited) IGN?
I haven't read through this thread, but since the OP is basing his crap on Alexa numbers, can we safely disregard it? It only tracks people dumb enough to have installed the Alexa toolbar. Maybe there's a chance that most gamers are smart/savvy enough to not install a spyware toolbar in their web browser? Like the guy above me said, how representative are Alexa users of the gaming users who visit these sites?
