Forums - Gaming - Why Do SE Refuse to Remake FF VII?

1. Maybe... We have no idea how much it costs, but the remake would be cheaper.

2. That's not really a massive rewriting, fixing a bunch of mistakes...

3. True, but how much would that really cost in the long run? Not much...

4. There is hype in the real world too. FF7 AC selling a ton of DVD's/Blu-rays. Cloud/Sephy being possibly the 2 biggest RPG icons ever. The game HAS sold over 10 Million copies... There are a lot of fans who would buy it again.

1) Not really.  They'd still have to remake all the graphics... which is BY FAR the most expensive thing.  Think about it.  Development costs have doubled and higher this generation... why?

2) Nah, you'd have to rewrite everything so the dialogue comes off more credible... there was little in the translation that didn't come off horrible or stiltted.

3) Your kidding right?  It'll cost a lot more then finding the voice actors.... and they'll charge more because they know they can.  I mean why do you think they lock up voiceactors/actors for multiple seasons and games when they don't even know if it's going to be successful?

Because once they are established as the character they charge an arm and a leg.

Example.  Say they make a new Cowboy Bebop movie that's set during Spike's time in the sydnicate... how much do you think they'll be paying Spikes english VA out the nose because they know the fans won't except a different voice?

4. FF7 is a new product.  I'd expect a remake to sell LESS then AC.

1 and 2. My point is, they already have a template for everything, it's not being done from the ground up. Which will save a bunch of costs.

3. How do we know the FF voice actors aren't contracted? Or at least the main Char's?... Cloud, Sephy, Zack Etc. I'm not saying they ARE... But they have been used enough for SE to have actually contracted them, and if a FF7 remake is in production right now... It''s odd's on that they will have been contracted to do the entire compilation.

4. Seriously? I'd expect it to do 3-4 Million. Possibly more...

I agree...it isnt the first time ive heard the obnoxious 100mill+ thing.... im saying 60 least 80mill highest

Who said they are. After looking at FFXIII sales on PS3, SE would never pass up on this opportunity.

1&2) In previous generations.   Over half your cost is going to be graphical assets this generation.   That's not even counting marketing budget.

3) FF7 ISN'T in prodcution right now.  You can tell by the way the developers talk about it.  They aren't doing the usual "You never know" or flat out denieing.  Instead the company line is "We just don't have the time to do it right."

4) 3-4 Million would probably be lucky to break even.

Are you sure?

GTA4 cost 100 Million.

Which game do you think looks better graphically?

Which game do you think will have more varied graphical assets?

Which game is taking longer produce?

Which game will have a longer story?

Which game will have more voice acting.

Which game will have more cutscenes?

FF13 in all cases correct?  In what way does FF13 save over GTA4?

Kas - you are way over-estimating graphics. They have the engine already and who says it needs to be up to par with ff13? Give it to the B or C team. Any = type of upgrade to the boxes and diamond shapes would be fine.

And in case of FF13 many cutscenes are actually CGI, in GTA 4 all of them were real-time.

Everytime you start a mission there is a cutscene for GTA. Every cut scene has VA and so does people around the city.

Which game will be more linear?

Which game has more alive city?

Which game did research for rain effects?

Which game took hundreds of thousands of pictures in NYC?

Which game is coming off of a franchise with 20 million sellers?

Ok, then explain why costs have doubled to tripled this generation.  The great bulk of that is infact graphics.

Take GT5... it takes 6 months of man hours to model 1 car... vs much much less for other GT games.  I believe it was... a month previously?

Ifyou think Disgea tripled in cost you sir are ignorant.
