no, it will have it applications, an augmented and virtual reality in the future, but traditional gaming won't be affected by it.

What I stated at the very beginning. The future control scheme for video games is not going to be one that, by design, makes the current most popular genres extremely difficult to make. By the time mass opinion stats to change we will see more shifts in the control scheme world. New ideas will take off, and flounder ultimately helping shape where this motion controlled business will go. What gamers want now though will prevent most of the stranger ideas being thrown around from ever becoming the default option.
Well I don't think its the future but I think it is moving into a direction that eventually gets us there. A means to an end basically. I don't think you'll ever be able to take interface completely out of gaming. Heart of gaming has always been a controller in a gamer's hands. Taking that completely out kinda takes the main premise of gaming out as well.
Thus i see the future something a little more along the lines of 3D stereoscopic with a very unique and complex interface. Reality has always been the future of gaming but its hard to imagine reality being nothing but "air guitar" right. It's quite obvious I'm looking more along the ranges of virtual reality but not in the Virtual Boy sense.
Basically video gaming is going to have to expand not just from reality of motions (Wiimote, Sony Wand, Natal) but reality of vision as well. Not to throw out a pun or anything but we have to expand beyond the box by literally breaking it. Gaming has to expand beyond just viewing it on a TV if it wants to achieve reality. Gaming without boundaries, not just in user interface, but in the user's senses as well.
I think that is definitely direction both MS and Nintendo are moving in as they both have things in the past and currently that show interest. not entirely sure if this is something Sony is interested in but I do think they would jump on board. For me Sony's motion controller thing has always felt kinda "tossed" in there while Natal and Wiimote seem to be some long thought out developments.
But aside from that, that is what I think the future of gaming which does kinda incorporate the ideas of Natal. But it is more than just full body involvement but full sense involvement as well. Natal is just an early stepping stone to eventually getting there.

Really good post, but actually I think it is sony that is pushing the biggest thing, which is flicker free 3d gaming at home.
It always amazes me that people that have no problem accepting that a plumber can jump 30 feet in the air, or a human being can get shot 25 times and just duck behind a wall and be okay in 3 seconds, can be so damned closed minded about something like this. This is the first big leap towards VR! Didn't anybody else dream of the holodeck when they were younger? This is a step towards that, when or how will that EVER be a bad thing? I hope the OP is right, and we get some really mind-blowing software to go with this, because it's going to sink or swim on it's software.
Before you get all flamey, I understand that there are obstacles, but some of the best and brightest minds in the video game and entertainment industry are working on this. And none of you care, you just want to bitch "How's it gonna workz?" Waaaaaaahh! Be excited about exciting things, dammit! It doesn't matter who is making it, it's cool and even if it flops it could open up the industry to something else that will truly be revolutionary. It may not be the leap all the way to the holodeck, but it certainly is an important part of that road.
No it isn't the first leap to VR. VR was the first leap to VR, and it failed. There are a lot of issues that come with attempting something on that scale. Either you can think of a way to address those issues and should bring them up, or you can't and are trying to distract people from the serious flaws. Personally I think you are just trying to obscure the flaws rather than address the legitimate criticisms.

But where does technology go after 120 FRAPS (they dont work very well) and 1080P graphics

I attempted a thread where game ideas for Natal would be thrown around, but it got very, very little attention. Perhaps people are more interested in what it cannot do than in what it can do.

That is hard to tell at this stage. The practical limits of the camera are entirely unknown to the general public. It could be an extremely powerful and cool new device, or it could be a glorified camera. Until we start seeing it in action first hand it is all speculation really. The general technology itself has some really good potential, but we need to figure out what would even be possible. There is long term potential, but until we see how successful Natal is we won't know if there will be people investing into the future tech.
Yes 3D and Natalesque gaming are the future. Its a matter of time before virtual reality gaming and holographic gaming are common. I'm a Computer Graphics Technology major and this is what we discuss and are focusing on. I know alot of you are close minded and believe games can only be played with a controller but unlike you there are creative minds who will create successful ways to play games without a classic controller.
