I don't think you'll ever be able to take interface completely out of gaming. Heart of gaming has always been a controller in a gamer's hands. Taking that completely out kinda takes the main premise of gaming out as well. Thus i see the future something a little more along the lines of 3D stereoscopic with a very unique and complex interface. Reality has always been the future of gaming but its hard to imagine reality being nothing but "air guitar" right. It's quite obvious I'm looking more along the ranges of virtual reality but not in the Virtual Boy sense. Basically video gaming is going to have to expand not just from reality of motions (Wiimote, Sony Wand, Natal) but reality of vision as well. Not to throw out a pun or anything but we have to expand beyond the box by literally breaking it. Gaming has to expand beyond just viewing it on a TV if it wants to achieve reality. Gaming without boundaries, not just in user interface, but in the user's senses as well. I think that is definitely direction both MS and Nintendo are moving in as they both have things in the past and currently that show interest. not entirely sure if this is something Sony is interested in but I do think they would jump on board. For me Sony's motion controller thing has always felt kinda "tossed" in there while Natal and Wiimote seem to be some long thought out developments. But aside from that, that is what I think the future of gaming which does kinda incorporate the ideas of Natal. But it is more than just full body involvement but full sense involvement as well. Natal is just an early stepping stone to eventually getting there. |
Really good post, but actually I think it is sony that is pushing the biggest thing, which is flicker free 3d gaming at home.
