Forums - Nintendo - Spyborgs -- How and Why the mighty have fallen to $10 at Gamestop

If you have any interest in Spyborgs, it is only $10 (USD) at Gamestop.

This is half the price of last week -- and an 80% reduction in the release price of $50 about three months ago.

The game's modest sales (currently 30k in North America)  moved it from high-end to bargain sales price point within a few weeks of release. Now it appears to be at close-out.

What I wonder, if Capcom had not listened and instead released the game as it was shows in the original trailers, would it have been better off? I certainly think so because it gave up style and humor -- which seems to work on the Wii -- for firepower.

Then again, I sometimes wonder if Capcom intentionally had this title do poorly to provide it with an excuse not to do Wii work. That almost sounds like something the North American unit would do.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

I was certainly more interested in it prior to change. That said, I remember a lot more people complaining about the original concept then preferring it. So, it's hard to say. My guess is it would of been close to Zack & Wiki level sales without the change. Hmmm, I guess that would of been better...

Switching mid stream is probably the worse of both worlds...  Those who were interested, lost interest.  Those who were not interested because of the original concept didn't take notice of the change and remained uninterested...

I still want to play it before buying it, too bad for Capcom but it got mixed reviews and word of mouth was not strong enough.

I guess I'll buy it. Only $10, and I anticipated it for a while.

No advertising and no hype plus abysmal reviews equals a bad selling game. If they had actually kept up from the hype like they had originally tried from the first trailer, it could have been a decent seller but they didn't and I'm not surprised at all.

I'm guessing the hype from Madworld made them think a brawler would be a good idea. This was before that game came out to merely decent sales.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Y'know, I'm not sure what makes you suspect this from the publisher that's bringing us RE: DSC, Monster Hunter 3, and most of all, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, a title which I never thought would leave Japan.

Capcom might not be backing the Wii as heavily as some third parties, but I wouldn't accuse them of slacking at this point.

This game was not going to be a hit regardless of which style the developers chose. It's a generic beat'em up. Then again, maybe an online coop would have made the game fair better. But it looks repetitive and looks like it lacks depth.

If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba

I don't buy the proposed conspiracy theory for a moment, but you can include me in the group that liked it more pre-revision. The precept was humorous, if nothing else, and made it stand out more. I'm not saying I would have bought it though.
