Hmmm let's see. Final fantasy X launched in Japan in July 2001. The install base in Japan at that time was 5 million. It launched with 1.9 million in sales, eventually getting to just over 3 million. The weeks before FF X released it was selling in the 80-90Ks. The week of FF X release the sales spiked by an additional 75K over the previous week.

PS3 =/= PS2. But it's possible that PS3 sales in Japan since Slim and price cut will look more like PS2 sales than pre-slim PS3 sales.

PS3 sales seem to be rising quite nicely at the moment, the week before FFXIII week could see sales of about 65-70K. Given the install base for PS2 at the time of FFX is comparable (but slightly higher) than PS3 is now it's probably reasonable to expect a similar spike of about 75K (lower install base means possibly more FFXIII buyers who don't yet own a PS3, but likelihood is FFXIII will launch with lower software sales than FFX, so I'll call it even). Let's say pre-FFXIII week is 65K in sales (that's reasonable isn't it if this week is 50K with no substantial software and last week was 41K?), this should make FFXIII week hit 140K in PS3 sales.

If PS3 hits 150K plus on FFXIII launch in Japan then that will be a very impressive and overachieving result according to my analysis. Less than 120K could be seen as a bit underwhelming, and less than 100K would be quite poor. It'll need to be at least 100K if WW PS3 is to make 1 million that week.

Wow, nice Wii numbers. Looking forward to seeing how it does the following week as well (this week). The Tales of Graces bundles might help a little bit.

360 outsold the psp go! Haha, that's pretty funny. The go is really tanking, but at least it helped the psp 3000 (well that and the 3000 model price drop).

The 360 should probably outsell the psp go again in next weeks numbers (for this week) as the 360 MW2 bundle just came out today (along with the game) so it might have a little boost. I just picked myself up one of the MW2 bundles for myself earlier today, so that's one extra 360 hw sale already. (going to give my current 360 Elite to my gf, once I transfer the data to the MW2 360.)

I find it strange that they have Pokemon listed as the published For Pokepark.

Is the Pokemon Company considered a publisher in Japan?

The way I look at FFXIII is like this -

Say it has a 50% bigger opening than NSMB Wii, and comes in at 1,350,000 week one. Well, the PS3 costs 50% more than Wii does in Japan, 30,000 Yen to 20,000 Yen. So to have a bigger lift than Wii just had, ~60k - mostly due to NSMB Wii - then it needs to sell far more than 1.35m week one. PS3 will be able to get to perhaps 60,000 next week, so it will easily clear 100,000 on a 60k FFXIII rise, and the next mid December season lift. But even with a 1,350,000 debut, pushing 60,000 PS3s I don't know that it can push PS3 much past 135,000 or so in Japan, even with the normal lift you'd see from the Dec 13 to Dec 20 weeks that doesn't include FFXIII.

Keep in mind that a mere demo for FFXIII caused a 25% more expensive ps3 to spike almost 50k earlier this year.  A 60k spike seems rather low for the full game releasing after the price cut.

PSP Go is officially the biggest failure for Sony ever. PS3, Wii, PSP (other than Go) all doing great. DS still the king. X360 probably almost dead without any big exclusive this holiday.

what horrid sales for 360 and Go.....evry thing else look gr8.

DSL - 6700
DSi - 45000
LL - 62000
PSP - 66000
go - 3600
Wii - 101000
PS3 - 50000
PS2 - 2500
360 - 4300

Good PS3, Wii, DS and PSP numbers. If we assume, that PS3 will increase 10k every week and have 40k limited bundles on FFXIII week, then 50k +10k + 10k + 40k = 110k - is the lowest PS3 hardware number on FFXIII release week.

Wii at 101k?  That is bullshit and we all know it.  Famitsu made a mistake.

All the Mario fans already had a Wii, so there's no way NSMB Wii could boost hardware.

I expect a retraction from Enterbrain some time today.

Oh no, you see, the hardware boost is from Poképark Wii. Pokémon fans never had a good reason to buy a Wii until now, and if you add 44k and 57k together you get 101k
