Good job by Pandemic - too bad they had to go.

Very interesting article, I am glad Pandemic was able to establish this technique.

Odd. Future. Wolf. Gang. Kill. Em. All. OFWGKTA Don't give a fuck!

Fuck Steve Harvey. FREE EARL!

Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be the GREATEST game EVER made!!!

I'd take a bullet for Square-Enix!

It resembles a lot the Parhelia's 16x Edge AA, an AA method done in Matrox graphic cards since 2002. It has the same advantages, high level of AA when the algorithm behaves as requested, and the same problems, it doesn't work in some situations.

This very exciting if you're a PS3 owner. I can imagine GG is all over this tech right now - considering their obsession with round edges. I hope this will lead to the end of Quincunx on PS3. I kind of figured it was only a matter of time before someone figured out how to use the cell to do AA.

Article is stupid, there are AA modes outside of MSAA that exist for PC graphics cards. Both Nvidia and AMD have their own version of an edge detect AA mode. Also said mode is not better than 16xMSAA as it leaves areas of the game aliased.

Not even trying to hide it anymore huh?

Makes a noticeable difference close up, but I probably wouldn't ever notice it if I hadn't read this. I don't really noticed jaggies often though, try to look at the whole picture.

That's cool but as for the game itself, in both pictures the 360 had better colors imo. In the first picture the 360 version also looked like it had much better detail.

Agreed, stopped taking article seriously around here.

"It's often the case that the Xbox 360 version of a game features edge-smoothing (is he talking about Anti-Aliasing...), while the PlayStation 3 counterpart will either leave it off altogether, scale it back, or use an NVIDIA specific technique called "quincunx", (is he talking about Quincunx AA...) which refines edges nicely, but blurs the entire texture in the process.

None of these options are particularly attractive(though quincunx has its place in certain scenarios)"

My eyes popped out when I saw that, did this guy just say any type of Anti Aliasing isn't attractive....but if any type of AA were to be used Quincunx will perform better if it is suited for that situation...Hold on WTF?! Whatever he is smoking I want some, life without AA would fucking suck. I love how the article explains in depth what MSAA and Quincunx are...If you'd like to know Squilliam has an excellent article on it right here http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=55284

Article than proceeds to ignore other AA types as Squilliam noted there's more such as RGSS, CSAA etc..Article than spells artifacts wrong...it's not artefacts, it's ARTIFACTS!!!! Artifact can also = Aliasing. Why is this article so poorly and uninformitively written?

I doubt Guerilla Games is all over this, KZ2 AA was amazing, GG steps on Pandemic's face, eats it, shits the face out, and eats it again the next morning for breakfast.

^^ Article was saying that none of the typical PS3 solutions to do equal AA w/ 360 were particularly attractive, before going on to detail the technique in question.

If the SPUs can do this in a wide variety of situations/games while 360's CPU can't match, Article is revealing something super important.  PS3 owners like Squilliam and starcraft may be looking at some even nicer looking games coming down the pipeline.

What technique does GG use, do you happen to know?
