This costs the same as the cheapest Macbook.

lol@anyone trying to argue that Apple products aren't overpriced

Ok. We get it. You can build your computer for less, or buy a non-Apple laptop for much less than a comparable Apple laptop. If we are talking about this from a hardware perspective, this is the same thing Nintendo has done this gen with the Wii. They maintain a healthy profit margin on the Wii and accessories, not unlike Apple computers, Ipod, Iphone, etc. The Wii is overpriced if you compare it to something like the x360 from a strict hardware perspective (for example), but the software makes up for this. The same can be said for Apple computers because of OSx, iLife, etc. This percieved value isn't something universal and varies between computer users.

mac with no virus

To make a long story short:

MAC = PC - Games

You want programs, then the PC is the way to go for max flexibility. The MAC really doesn't do anything well since they switched to the Intel platform. And no, MAC are definitely not more secure. I have 10x more virus problems with the 2 rooms of MAC's than I do with an entire base full of PC's on a secure domain.

Anything a normal user needs most likely exists for osx and is probably more user friendly. Despite the software advantage which is irrelevant for most people, osx is preferable for some people for general use, and for some professionals. For me personally, there is nothing that I know of that compares to Quicksilver for osx, so until I can compose emails from the same universal metatool that I use to launch urls, extract files, copy, delete, sync Ical with my phone, etc... I would rather use osx. For others I've met who've used osx, they prefer the simplicity and like the operating system.

Being a reformed mac hater myself, this is the single hardest thing to explain to lifelong computer nerds. Many simply don't get it, and probably never will.

Not exactly.

A Mac does the same thing a PC does - word processing, internet, IM, and so on.

Wii vs. PS360, however, is completely different, as the software libraries don't have a whole lot in common.

If you were to make a comparison to gaming, you'd be better off comparing PC gaming with PS360 - One's cheaper in the long run if you do it yourself, where as the other's a dumbed-down mass-market product that tries to emulate the former.

EDIT: And having watched Apple's OS X propaganda videos, I would say that in many ways, OS X is less user-friendly than Windows.

EDIT AGAIN: Oh, and your argument would make more sense if Wii actually cost twice as much as a PS3 or a 360. >_>

All depends on what you're after. That looks like a better gaming machine, but I wouldn't even bother gaming on a laptop. A DS, PSP, or iPhone would be a much less cumbersome way to game on the go. Laptops are for work.

Software aside, I'd much rather go with the laptop that's 25% lighter, with a multi-touch trackpad (trying to go back after using Apple's trackpad is like trying to use a mouse without a scroll wheel), magnetic power connector and a 50% longer claimed battery life. Believe it or not, there are other hardware considerations besides just mega hurts and giggle bites.

You do realize that most computer nerds can build a MAC any time they want right (you only need a patch)? Yet they still choose Windows or Linux for their own personal use. No offense but I am the opposite of you. I used to respect MAC's because they had some real world advantages, but they threw them all out the window with they went Intel. Now you are basically buying a PC at a 50% premium whenever you buy a MAC with no advantage whatsoever.

In your comparison, it would be like Nintendo claiming that the Wii it is more powerful than the XBox 360, and then trying to sell it for more than the PS3. That is exactly what Apple is doing today and yea people really are that dumb.

As for Quicksilver... you have got to be joking. Maybe if I were a amnesiac, then I might find it refreshing. We had taskbars and keyboard shortcuts back as far as OS2 and maybe before that for all I know. Quicksilver serves no advantages over other methods of making shortcuts and yea you can even script shortcuts in all the other OS's as well and it is just as easy. Next thing you know MAC users are going to claim that they invented right click menus because Linux right clicks arent as pretty. Sad day for the tech world.

There's nothing comparable to iLife as far as I know. While there may be individual apps that do the same thing, there is no package that is as well designed for general users. While there are some games for the Wii that you can't get anywhere else, there is some crossover like Rockband, Guitar Hero and Sports games, the bottom line for me is that people defend their strategy up and down but when Apple continues doing the same thing they've done for some time now, it's the biggest waste of money ever.

If you're the kind of person whose used Windows your whole life and sees no problem with it, obviously you have no need for anything else. Please realize not everyone is like you, nor does everyone want to use windows.
