If you know what you are doing, PC, if not, Mac. If you really know what you are doing, Linux.

If you want to play games then only a PC will do unless you run windows on your MAC. In addition you will pay alot more for similiar hardware if you go the Mac route. I fully suggest going the PC route

Macs are extremely reliable and easy to use if you are unfamiliar with computers. You will also be forced to run windows if you wish to play games, and will pay signifficantly more for an equal product.
PCs are much cheaper and more difficult to use, but if you know what you are doing with your computer everything is faster and easier. You'll spend much less money to get a PC of high quality than you would a mac.

It also depends on how much you like tinkering with computers. I know more than one guy who spends the whole work day administrating Red Hat enterprise servers and when they get home the last thing they want to do is spend time tinkering with their home systems.

Both. PC for games, Mac for everything else.
