You should play it AFTER you play FFXIII. You will enjoying FF13 ALOT less if you play Xenogears first.

Xenogears is an amazing game, linear is only bad when the story is lacking, and Xenogears' story is certainly not lacking.

YES! Definitely my favorite RPG and favorite game of all time. The story, battle system, and characters were all excellent. Also the soundtrack was amazing. Yasunori Mitsuda does not get enough credit. He is easily just as good, if not better, than Nobuo. The soundtracks for Chrono Trigger/Cross were excellent too.

I think Mitsuda gets a fair amount of credit for his work with the Chrono series and Xenogears. But you are certainly right, the score for Xenogears is easily among the best ever, it completely captures the atmosphere of the game.
