Forums - Sony - This could be Sony's PS3 WAND Motion Controller

The problem with the whole design is it requires a PS Eye. $50 for the eye, and $50 for the motion controller, I mean come on.

True, but the eye has been around for a while and maybe due a pricecut.

i can see the eye being given away for "free" with a game of some sort to aid marketing and promotion.

Expect the Eye2 to follow that will more like the natal camera.

Yeah, except that it couldn't, because it's not by Sony.

Who's to say Miguel (the artist) didn't create this from a design that was actually being considered?

Who says he did? You don't need negative proof, you need positive proof.

"Well certainly with the Xbox 360, we had some challenges at the launch. Once we identified that we took control of it. We wanted to do it right by our customers. Our customers are very important to us." -Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb (10/2013). Note: RRoD was fixed with the Jasper-revision 3 years after the launch of 360

"People don't pay attention to a lot of the details."-Yusuf Mehdi explaining why Xbone DRM scheme would succeed

"Fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity; it's called Xbox 360,”-Don Mattrick

"The region locking of the 3DS wasn't done for profits on games"-MDMAlliance

They would need something better than just the USB connectors. They should have at least 1 on easch, so you could recharge it like the Dualshock 3, but people don't sit perfectly still.

Gamers twist, turn......get angry. That controller wouldn't last.

would you settle for a "this could [have] be[en] Sony's PS3 WAND"?

Or,

would you settle for this:

Every mock up and version we've seen of the wand has been non-finalized hardware. Nobody knows what it's going to look like. It's possible, and probable, that the WAND indeed WILL look something like this.

This dual analog stick design is pointless. They might as well just stick one of those balls to the front of a DS3 if thats what you want.

There is a reason that the Wii only has one analog stick. The IR pointer is the second analog stick. On the PS3 wand, the light ball is the second analog stick.

It's not really a second analog stick though. It's a tool to interact in the 3d space.

The PS3 wand doesn't have any accelerometers or gyroscopes right? All motion detecting is done by the light ball? Then there is no reason why the controllers should cost $50.

two players can use one controller.

It's not really a second analog stick though. It's a tool to interact in the 3d space.

It is to be used as a second analog stick. For instance, the Wii's nunchuck analog corresponds to the 360's left analog stick, allowing for movement. The Wii's IR pointer (and WM+ now if they wanted to) corresponds to the 360's right analog stick, allowing you to look around.

Edit: I think I get what you're saying. The wand might not be used as a pointer at all, but to detect other motion. In that case you would need 2 analog sticks.

except that the wiimote nunchuck does not allow you to manipulate things with both hands as motion control. This is basically holding 2 wiimotes.
