Forums - Sony - Sony NOT Learning from PS3 Mistakes - 3D TV Plan Will Fail

Hmmm Lets see

1. I will never wear glasses to watch TV

2. It is impossible to have the tech for non glasses 3d applied to multiple viewers in the same room.

Therefore I will never be able to watch 3d TV with another human being.

Why do companies act like such total tools...........3d TV is a non starter.

Its all possible, you just need more than 1 glasse, actually it usually sell per kit of 2.

Sony does, others will follow

No... Samsung already has monitors and TVs which support 3D. In fact the only way to do 3D gaming today is on the PC with a Nvidia card and a Viewsonic or Samsung monitor I think.

Joke thread? Do you think only Sony is investing on 3D Tvs? I knew some people that said now they will feel compelled to buy a new generation TV, that it is revolution. Not only change CRT for LCD/Plasma/LED because oh High Definition.

someone has to start sooner or later sony is trying to change the market too fast with the psp go and now this although if sony wasn't full of risks we would not be enjoying blue ray today :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this entire article based on wild speculation and a Wedbush Morgan analyst

If Sony doesn't start now then it won't get done.

Sony is always at the beginning of every major technological advancement in the last 20 years.

They have fought to bring things to consumers whether they succeed or fail.

It isn't like sony is going to force this down our throats with PS3......they need something for PS4.

Ive said this before...and ill do it again. I have a 3D ready TV...67 inch 3D Tv. And I have the Nvidia Vision glasses and have played countless games in 3D on my PC.

There is no way that Sony will try and depend on this tech. Its not as good as people think... Only hopeless fanboys who have never tried 3D gaming are saying this is Sonys future.

If sony makes this available for some ps3 games (4-5 games tops will be able to do this on the PS3)...cool for them and PS3 gamers that have never tried 3D gaming, but there is nothing new in this and this tech has been around for a long time. Sony pushing this would be like nintendo pushing cartriges again.

name some of the countless pc games if you don't mind....

FEAR, FEAR2, Crysis Warhead, GTA San Andreas, Halo, half life 2. I tried a few others like Gears of War just to see what it will look like.

Sadly my computer cant run new new games in 3D like REsident evil 5 and GTA4. You need a MONSTER pc to pull these games off in 3D.

Here is a complete list of everything Nvidia vision supports

I also use 3D on my old CRT TV. But theres a big difference in a 2D media (all the on you mentioned) process to display in 3D. Than an original 3D media. One add depth to your screen while the other make things pop off the screen, adding depth as the same time, which is really nice. When you said in your first post that 3D is not cool, I guess you were talking about 2D media convert into 3D (by your nvidia program). Any time I show 3D imax movies to friends on the old CRT eveyrone is amaze, only problem is the flickers. What Sony is doing will be flicker free, so it will be simply awesome. Did you play a game like Avatar? one of the very few that is program in 3D. I did not, but I guess it would be much better than your experiences from 2D games process into 3D.

Also theres is no reason for the TVs to cost more than 2000$ unless you want a really big one. The googles use for my CRT processing unit are about 15$ each. It should not be as expensive as some of the comments.

Yeah CRTs work too but they flicker as their refresh rate is 100hz. You really need 120 or more.

Apparently there is a trick to play Avatar in 3D on PS3 and 360 already using Nvidia glasses and one of the 3D supported TVs and monitors. I have all the necessary components so will rent avatar one of these days and try it out.

Lets all wait and see how it does, and works before the negativity starts.

Well you gotta start somewhere, while I still have yet to buy an HD TV that doesn't mean others could already be prepared for 3D HDTV's.

The funny thing is...you really need to do research to find out which TVs are 3D ready.

Only Samsung 2008 DLP line was 3D ready as was Mitsubishi's. I bought the 67 inch one and have been happy early adopter of 3D gaming on PC.

Samsung stopped making DLPs for 2009...so you would think only Mitsubishi ones are currently 3D ready in 2009 right? Wrong...

Samsung introduced 3D mode in 2 of their plasmas. Here is the funny part...they are 720p bottom end plasma...lol

These 2 TV's are the ONLY TVs on the market today that are not DLP that are "3d Ready". and there is literally nothing on the box or the manual that says they are "3d ready"

All those people buying 120HZ and 240 HZ tvs for 3000 dollars are throwing the money down the tube if they think they are getting 3D ready TVs.

Here is a list for people that may actually want to invest in 3D ready products. http://www.3dmovielist.com/3dhdtvs.html

Very good post, its indeed complicated nowadays to display 3D on a TV. First you dont know what TVs can do it, second you also need a computer to analyze and process the images to your tv. Third, different kind of 3D medias have different kind of 3D output, which mean that you can purchase a 3D ready TVs today but would be unable to play future games.

Two tumbs up for Sony that want to simplify the process in removing the computer in between,  marketing the TVs 3D ready compatible with PS3 firmware. And finally putting in place some kind of standard for 3D gaming and 3D cinema at home. Ill be a first day adopter if theres already a couple of games.
