But damn west has so many. I'm getting tired of listing them but there's Grand Theft Auto, Killzone, Ratchet & Clank, Crash Bandicoot, Gears of War, Halo, Modern Warfare, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, Oblivion, Fallout, God of War, Half Life (oh yeah!), Left 4 Dead, Bioshock, Tom Clancy Games and more.

Western Games >>>>>>> Japanese games

Ho ho ho, that's it man. Let me tell you some of these games that aren't so great (despite being a fan of some of them): GTA, Killzone, R&C, GeoW, Halo, MW, AC, L4D, Bioshock, Tom Clancy's ones...

It would take me ages to explain why. Those games that I listed aren't art. They're just like a blockbuster meaningless movie. Pure entertaining for some time, but nothing that remains in your memory and your heart. Nothing that makes you think, shiver, cry...On the other hand you have japanese games that are real masterpieces, games that must be played, just like movies you must watch before you die, or books you have to read, songs you have to listen to (I'd go with whole albums, but that would need another full explanation and it's 1:15 am here ^^). True art.

I'm no saying that all Japanese games are that good. As a matter of fact, they have an importante amount of apeshit (just because of how the industry works nowadays). Both Western and Japanese masterpieces are awesome, they're equal as good. But you can find much more of them in Japan.

*I know that my artistic point of view of videogames is not quite popular, but please don't misunderstand me ^^*

The reason why Western games don't sell in Japan is because most western game's storylines suck hippo assholes. Japanese people care about story. If they didn't then rpgs wouldn't be so popualr there. Also, the japanese don't like the mindless violence that western games bring.

I agree =).

Western game developers can make games that remain in your memory and your heart, you just need to look for them.

Of course!! I didn't say otherwise my friend! If you take a look at the list of games that I said that weren't art, some of the original quote are missing! That's because I consider them art ^^. And, as I said in my post:

Both Western and Japanese masterpieces are awesome, they're equal as good. But you can find much more of them in Japan.

*edit: let me add that you can find much more mostly because of historical reasons.

Western Games > Japanese Games

and this guy is exactly what i was talking about just now.

Not just MW2 bud. Assassin's Creed 2, God of War 3, GT5 (yeah its made in Japan, but for a mostly western audience), Heavy Rain, Splinter Cell Conviction, Halo 3, Gears of War, etc.

What's japan got? Final Fantasy?

all the timeless classics are made where?

lets see.. SoTC ? Japan , MGS ? Japan , Castlevania ? Japan , Zelda ? Japan. Mario ? Japan.

which of the games you listed will be remembered 10 years from now? MW2 ? no , they will release MW12 by then, AC 2 ? no its pretty forgetable actually , GoW 3 ? nope, Splinter Cell? Get outta here seriously,  Halo 3 ? nope , Gears? not a chance.

Heavy Rain MIGHT be a classic game because its very different and it have the chance of being up there with other Western classics such as Out Of This World and Elder Scrolls.

and its funny how you have GT5 in there.

Just because a game is considered a "classic" doesn't mean its better. These games are considered classics because gaming was in its infancy and they began the phenomena we consider gaming. Video games are now the biggest entertainment business in the world and games have evolved by a huge margin. Games are much better now than what they used to be and I dare you to go back and play these old games and tell me they have better stories, better variety, better gameplay than the best games of today. They don't and you are living on nostalgia. The best games made today come from the west. Western games>>>Japanese Games now.  20 years ago Japanese games>>>Western games

its a dare? , no im not living in a nostalgia, its just timeless classics can be played over and over without them getting outdated.

while lets say.. Call of Duty. you play that game once and then you wait for the sequel because its not timeless, games mainly based on graphics are like sand, they just fly away with time.

classics are stones. they stay in place.

Do you consider Doom to be a classic?

OF COURSE!

people still play the original doom to this day! , even i do sometimes, i also love the mods too.

Unless you can bring me a western game with a storyline as amazing as Xenogears' storyline then IMO it will always be Japanese games >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Western games.

Final Fantasy, Shin Megami Tensei, Metal Gear Solid, GT5 (Its a japanese game), Mario, Pokemon, Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden and the greatest game of all time Xenogears.

Japanese games >>>>>>>>>>>> Western games

Yes sir.

Wonder if Wada would say the same about my Japanese bias.

I could list 20 more franchises that make Japanese games superior.

Anyone that thinks that western games are better is tasteless in my eyes.

To put it into perspective, Japanese games focus a lot on catering to our emotions. That's why they are memorable. If a game can cater to a lot of your emotions, it can become very memorable and enjoyable just for that. Of course, the game must play pretty well too to allow you to enjoy those emotions.

Western games generally have more intuitive gameplay than Japanese games. They are however very lacking in the emotion department. There might be some comedy here and there, and maybe a few important powerful moments, but their executions are weak. There's not enough simple light-hearted moments to make the player feel relaxed and happy. There's far too much cynicism in the overall atmosphere of western games. Thus you are left with a feeling of emptiness and a sense of wanting more; but you can't seem to quench it. It wouldn't even matter how good the game play is.

Without great substance to back the great gameplay up, the experience of the game can be hurt.

This will only take a moment of your time. *steals your watch*
