best quote of the tread... if i am gonna spend my 65 bucks (10 bucks more then last gen almost one hundred freaking dollars!!!!!) on a game it better be fucking awesome.... most games this gen are not but there are some gems.

i cant believe a poster is willing to accept  underpar games so the greedy company can make MORE money out of us.... we are stupid consumers and companies will keep on rapping us because we will still buy crap.

The thing is, most companies are not making money during this gen. They make a lot of money on a few blockbusters but then blow it all on other games which don't make profits.

You can bet that if all games cost less than $50, a lot of studios would not exist today.

thats not true. M$ first games in 2005 were 50 bucks each all sold well and made a profit. the 60 dollars is just to get more money out of us because of stores like gamestop and used game sales. they tested gamers to see if we would buy a game for more then 50 bucks and we all fell for it. If companies were worried about sales so much they should of pushed one system that sells world wide and made all the games on that... ( like in the past ps1 ps2, now the wii etc). game devs costs went up thats for sure and people are losing a lot of money thats for sure  but that because devs made games on different consoles and took bribe money from all console markers.  the jp devs are suffering the most because they choose to make games on xbox and not the wii and the ps3. they are suffering because of bad choices not because of a 50 or 60 dollar price tags. if all those RPGS that were only on xbox came out for the pswii the fan base would be much larger in japan and they would not be in this mess.

Also there is another reason companies are going out of business and thats called a recession. (which i would place my money on that being the most inportant factor since you can always make cheap games on DS and psp and now XBL, Wii ware and PSN)

Lastly we must not forget that all PC games are still 50 bucks... why is that?

Games published by MS are a different matter, as they don't pay licensing fees to themselves. With PC games there are no licensing fees involved, that's why they're cheaper.

EA, Take 2, THQ and now Ubisoft as well aren't making money. Activision-Blizzard is, but judging from their reports it looks like most or all of it comes from Blizzard.

Those are 4 or 5 of the biggest publishers, if not the biggest.

EA, take 2 and THQ has had lots of trouble even before HD systems. and as i recall Ubi soft just last quater lost money but was profitable before  in THIS gen i believe (i could be wrong). we can have a list war of who is making money? if you like. but i wont. problem is not the price but their games. they arent selling as much. Madden has gone down for years and thats EA major problem. take 2 only has GTA that makes them money and thats been since the last gen. THQ WWE games sell less each year like madden.

point is people arent buying the same games every year and that can be because of the economy or a huge 60 dollar price tag. rasing prices well not save them.. in fact id buy more if the prices were LOWER....

thats my take anyway. nice debating with you as you do bring good points and dont come at me with silly points.

Actually EA only started losing money in the fiscal year ending in March 2008 (with very low profits in the year ending March 2007). And their revenue has been increasing a lot, so they're selling lots of games. The big problem is they're spending more on game development than they used to.

I'm not saying it's all this gen's fault anyway, my point is many publishers aren't making profits so it's not like they're ripping you off IMO.

As for lowering prices, it could work (I don't know), but I guess they've done their studies? Hopefully they've done them correctly too...

Hm if the main reason for it staying a PS3 exclusive was that it had more powerful hardware, I wondered what changed.. Did they find out that the power of the PS3 is overrated, or did they find out that the power of the X360 is underrated? Or both?

Truth does not fear investigation

i think its a smart move, specially since shooters sell so well on the 360. i still plan on getting it on the ps3 though.

None. That statement is just marketing to make people pay attention on their game.

Apparently the stores in my area didn't get the message as I paid $60 for them.

ahhhh good post.

well as i said before the gen does cost more thats a fact but i think a 10 dollar mark up is crazy i mean what other business can get away with that? music went DOWN because it lost a lot of money not up and movies just look at blu-ray... as soon as the prices went down lots more people started buying it.

as you said lowering prices could work but they choose to rasie prices and im sure they did studies because as you can see we as gamers still buy them at higher prices >.<.

pretty much every big store sold them at the suggested retail price.. i work for gamestop and i can tell you 100% I MYSELF sold and bought the M$ 1st party titles for 50 bucks.

Mab you bought them at a mom and pop store you certinly did not go to a walmart or best buy or my store gamestop... (if you are in the USA i could be wrong if your not from USA)
