And maxwell, how can you really comment on the PSP this year whenever your profile shows you only bought 2 PSP games released this year (Resistance and Tenchu)

Cause I've bought/played more than that :P so pipe down you
To make this brief
Little Big Planet
Soul Calibur BD
Monster Hunter FU
Star Wars Battlefront Elite Squadron
Rock Band Unplugged
Dissidia Final Fantasy
Phantasy Star Portable
Prinny Can I really be the Hero? (even did the review on it go check it out :P)
Want me to go on or do you want me to call you out on buying games but not playing them so you can't be a good judge of this years games

Wii Friend Code - 5882 9717 7391 0918 (PM me if you add me), PSN - MaxwellGT2000, XBL - BlkKniteCecil, MaxwellGT2000
wouldn't this be on the sales forum ?
well we all know nintendo makes money. so they win, why bother
Gamewise, their year is weak , and the HD consoles have put better games each month.

Since this is gaming as a whole (games and business) and not just sales then no.

Since nintendo sold/profited the most, aren't they the winners? I'm surprised we even need to debate this.
"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)
"WAR is a racket. It always has been.
It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler
Well I'll give my take:
Sales Success- There were a lot of good things about this year when it comes to sales wise. When it comes to systems, the winners are Wii, DS, and PS3 Slim. Why the Wii? Well despite slowing the summer it set record numbers in the early part of the year and was reinvigorated with a pricecut. Truly spectacular sales as it even looks to better PS2 in its comparative year as it stays on a trend of outdoing the PS2. DS is easy one. DS despite being in the market for over 5 years now is still able to put up record numbers throughout the year. Tie that in with a successful DSi launch with led to the biggest Black Friday week sales EVER. Finally, PS3 Slim as it has continuously sold well since it came out as Sony was able to put itself in a position to at least compete.
Now when we come to software the sales successes were Modern Warfare 2, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Wii Sports Resort, Wii Fit Plus, UFC: Undisputed, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Resident Evil 5, Dragon Quest IX, Pokemon Heartgold/SoulSilver, and Halo 3: ODST. Definitely been a strong year for the big expected titles but had a few surprised hits such as UFC and Batman games.
Sales Flops- when it comes to hardware there has been only one flop this year and that was the PSP Go. Despite PSP still being somewhat competitive, Sony released a higher priced PSP Go that was trying to be more like an iPhone than a video game console. Customers responded by continuously picking up DSis and PSP 3000s. Tie that in with a marketing campaign that didn't exist and you may have one of the biggest commercial flops since that of the Virtual Boy.
On software side the blaring ones are Fight Night Round 4, Brutal Legend, The Conduit, and almost all PSP games. FNR 4 was easily just a disaster for EA as based off the success of the first one and the hype for it, it disappointed by not giving the fans what they wanted. Brutal Legend was another example of a great new IP of an idea that failed to make it to the hearts of the mainstream as it got overlooked for titles such as Uncharted 2 and Borderlands. The Conduit was a hyped well funded Wii project that got denied big time marketing and didn't prove to the loyal fanbase that it was the definite Wii shooter. Finally, PSP games in general bombed and crashed throughout the entire year, even big 1st party Sony franchises. Piracy, a failed PSP Go, PSP 3000 slowing, anda dominant DS not only made PSP hardware crash but the software as well.
Overall Sales Winner- DS and it's not question about it. DS sold boatloads of hardware in its 5th full year on the market with software successes left and right. Nintendo started to bring some big Japanese properties over and they started to succeed in the west. Really being a developer in 2009, the DS was your best choice. Runnerups are 360 software, 1st Party Nintendo, and PS3 Slim.
Overall Sales Loser- PSP, namely the PSP Go. There is nothing that even comes close the disappointment that was the PSP Go as Sony watched as their once competitive handheld product faded into oblivion. Really nothing left to say about it.
Yea that's just the sales one haha. If had to big a winner I would pick Nintendo as Wii and DS are still huge hits with some huge software sales from the company to boot. However, unlike you, I can pick a clear loser and that is the PSP. That is the only reason I'm probably not going to give dual winning to both Ninty and Sony just because while Sony did a great job with a PS3 they did an equally bad job with PSP. But I do agree that the 360 has been steady the entire year and despite all that's gone on, MS has kept the 360 important in the eyes of the consumer.

Love your posts :P we're both people that can make walls of text about games and it's actually making points XD
Oh and yeah the PSP wasn't as great as I wanted but they came out with great games so I didn't see it as the worst PSP year (which I'd say was probably last year or 2005) solid titles, they still have solid hardware sales, but software leaves something to be desired I agree. But also when comparing it to the DS its almost unfair and yet they've still put up a good fight which is more than anyone can say about the GC or Xbox vs the PS2

Well I think all consoles did very well this year!
We all know that Nintendo is a beast, this is because they know how to manipulate the market and that’s how they sell so well. I give Nintendo a A+ for its sales.
In terms of Games I am very very very disappointed : S
On to the ps3.
I finally bought it after the price cut and have to say I am really enjoying it off course haven’t played any recent game still playing the old one, started with Uncharted 1, GTA IV, Fallout 3, Killzone 2 and just finished Metal gear Solid 4, pure awesomeness here.
Next on my list Uncharted 2,Infamous, FFXIII, God of War collection, God of war III, heavy rain , Mafia II… and so firkin on so :
In terms of hardware – A
In terms of games – A
In term of accuracy in classifying ps3 – Totally bias :P
