Forums - Gaming - Make your predictions for 2010

2009 is almost gone and it's time to use your imagination (and avalible data) to think about the future and make predictions for the big 3 and for the games and events expected for the next year:

Microsoft had a quite bad Black Friday. The lack of bundles and special offers hurt the company, but what's next?

Just one word; NATAL.This thing is going to have a huge marketing capaign almost at Halo 3 levels (even bigger), the impact'll be quite big in the USA but maybe not in other countries. Expect a lot of media coverage but at a long term probably won't be as used by the developers and the number of games released for the system won't be as big as the traditional 360.

Any glimpse of a new system?: Natal'll be treated as a new system.

Nintendo had a good year, but not as good as they expected.

This's a complete mystery, on one hand we know some of the big titles from Nintendo but on the other hand we don't know a single release date for any of them, one thing is sure they know that another disaster like the Animal Crossing/Wii Music duo is unacceptable so maybe (just maybe) Nintendo learn their lesson and it'll support the Wii with more games. (We still don't know what's going on with Retro, Intelligent System and others) The DS'll continue getting good sales and good game with the posibility of one more redesign. The Vitality Sensor'll end like the Wii Speak and maybe a "dead" project'll be revived.

Any glimpse of a new system?:The Old Crazy Pachter could be right ....... but maybe not.

Sony had a dream-like year, with a strong support in Japan, a new model, a price cut and a good lineup, so What's next?

Sony has their cards on the table, God of war III, MAG and Gran Turismo are set to be big releases and I'm expecting to see special bundles for at least 2 of them. The wand probably'll end with a quite bad reception from the fans and the developers so maybe it won't be as successful, sales'll be steady for most part of the year and 2010 could be the end of the road for the old Playstation 2 (expect a lot of coverage on pages and even a special "goodbye" edition of the PS2), the PSPGo could be either killed or re-released at a better price, but don't get you hopes high with this one.

Any glimpse of a new system?: Probably the new and improved PSP2, with only digital content from the beginning

Nope I make this thing alone.

Sony will release a few strong games at the beginning of the year and then roll into summer with a limited line-up, relying on third parties. They will then come back strong in late 2010 with a number of holiday titles and exclusive third party titles. Sony profits from PS3 will go up. PSP however will continue to drop to all time lowes with PSPGo failing to make an impact in either the DS or iPhone markets. [Massive prediction] Sony will unveil plans to develop a new handheld device to target the iphone market.

Microsoft will continue to lose their foothold to Sony, pointing fingers at everyone else (customers, third parties, Nintendo) and claiming they're at fault all the while handing out empty promises such as 'Natal' and 'Exclusive content in the future'. They will end the year with lower profit margins than this year.

Nintendo will have multiple medium and high priority first party titles hit, but suffer the same fate as usual with sparse third party support and limited advertising. It will be a mixed bag as Nintendo mostly continues to run on their initial popularity and DS sales and finds Wii sales and software take a further hit in 2010, even with the inclusion of Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M. News of Zelda Wii will hit at E3.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

Microsoft does seem to have the most shaky prospects going into next year. Alan Wake and Mass Effect 2 are going to be awesome for 360 owners, i don't doubt, but the big hardware movers are going to be a while coming (though i'll grant Wii's big titles early on aren't going to move much hardware either, despite their impending awesomeness)
