It appears that, ever since the Mortal Kombat on the Genesis-SNES days, that Nintendo can't shake the "kiddie" label.  Now people feel safe in calling kiddie "not core".  That is the amazing part.  If a 2D Mario isn't core, then I guess core needs a lot of gore, blood and disembowlment.

Nintendo is a victim of their own succes? I think victim is not the right word. It is also a bit their own fault.

 Before this gen started would you have supported Nintendo with games as an third party developper? The GC didn't do that well would the Wii do well? while PS2 did great and having the ability to port the game to xbox 360 with ease I think not many would have done it.

If Nintendo wants more third party support they should also have invested more in 3d party developpers for an example like Microsoft did. Have (exclusive) games from J-developpers like Dead Rising, Ace Combat, Katamari, DOA, Ninja Gaiden, Blue Dragon etc.

Almost none of those games would have probably be released without MS invest in them.


I think the show was good. And they have a point, last christmas Animal crossing was the big nintendo game in the holidays and this year New Super Mario Bros. Some probably are happy with it but for the leader of the market it is quite sad that we don't see more especially compared to Sony.

The closest thing we will see to a "Wii HD" is some kind of external upscaler. Even that's not truly necessary, but Miyamoto himself has hinted at something like this: enough to tide over the graphics-are-everything sheep until a real successor console that actually brings something new to gaming can be built.

Seems to me like platformers can no longer be called core anymore, unless they incorporate a lot of TPS elements.

Wow. As much as I knew that a lot of the gaming media hates the Wii, I'm still amazed that someone would say "a 2D Mario" is worthless...

They're getting desperate. Nothing they've been able to do has been able to truly tank the Wii's sales (though the smear campaign against Wii Music certainly had some success), and the market is recovering from their conditioning: fewer and fewer people believe that graphics matter, and it's making games harder to sell. It's causing quite the marketing crisis.

I don't eat Soylent Green. Because meat is murder.

They don't need a campaign for that, the product is simply bad and for me is still a enigma how Nintendo tought that it was going to be the next Wii Fit or something.

Thats basically my view too.....there is a reason I haven't bought a wii game since SSBB....something HAS gone wrong somewhere with the Wii & my tagret demographic

Actually I heard that as:

"you can't fault Nintendo but... I'm sure as hell not gonna let that stop me from doing it"
