Forums - Nintendo - Gamestop Experience

Yeah I was going to say EB and Gamestop were the same company. Our EBgames got bought out by Gamestop.

Also... I wouldn't call gamestop a glorified pawnshop... because i've never once seen anyone ever heap any glory on gamestop.

I perfer "the Exchange" myself. Not sure if it's just an ohio store or what... but it's basically the same thing as gamestop but with music and movies as well. They tend to have better prices on their used games.

I also don't see the problem with them. People who don't want to ever play some games trade them in... and people who do want the games can get them for cheaper then they could elsewhere... and since it's not off ebay or something you can make sure you have somewhere you can return it to if the game don't play right.

So i don't see who's being ripped off really. Other the occasional guy who keeps buying and trading consoles and games back in and rebuying them, however that's not so much being ripped off as making poor decisions.

Other then that... so otherplaces have like 6 gamestops all situated right on top of each other too, eh?

There are 12 EB/GS locations within 10 miles of me. They're as bad as Starbucks and Quiznos.

The sad thing is I live by the ocean so they can't even populate parts the area or I'm sure there would be a half dozen more of the damned things if not for water.

@Soriku : Gamestop & EB Games are the same company, GS bought EB & Rhino (after Blockbuster bought Rhino) and are in the process of converting most of them to Gamestops.

to make that point farther the name EB games is being phased out. My local EBs changed their names to GameStop about 2 months ago.

Yeah, there's no more EB Games anywhere near me...they all went to Gamestops. I must have like 6 Gamestops within 10 miles. I miss Funcoland...those were the good ol' days.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I hate Gamestop. Turned my Rhino's into such a soulless place. Rhino's had ALL my retro gear too!

These guys were unprofessional. Whether you liked the game system/game or not you are supposed to be fair-minded as a clerk only making your personal suggestions if asked.

The people in my Gamestop were the same employees from Rhino's (well new ones are popping up) and they always carry themselves with professionalism. Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones. I hear so many horror stories about Gamestop.

You guys are unfortunatley quite mistaken in your assesments. GamStop selling used games is their ONLY source of income. They make a grand total of 1 dollar on every new game they sell. Some might argue that the value that they give you back is paltry, but 25 bucks for a game that you dont want/need anymore is better than nothing (plz rent before you buy). I happen to take offense when you call all Gamestop employees everywhere ignorant idiots..........

Retail stores pay about $40 for a game they sell for $50; they don't make $1 on every new game purchase. I used to work retail and see the price lists. It's the consoles, not the games, that they make next to nothing on.

*Bzzt* wrong, GAMEstop don't know about other retail stores) buys there games for $48$, fact,

*sigh* Soriku EBgames IS Gamestop, same managament, same company, Barnes and Noble owns both of them.

I don't see why they would accept such high prices on games when other retail stores get them cheaper.  Unless you're referring to 360 and PS3 games, which sell for $60.

I saw the product price list at the Gamestop I worked at (these were new PS2 Xbox games)

I don't know the pricing system for the 360,PS3,Wii, but I was having a conversation with the Head VP of the Game Stops in my state and he said they made an average of 4-6 dollars on next gen games.
