Congrats man. Hope you and your family enjoy your new console!
Oh, someone mentioned Dokapon Kingdom. Avoid it unless you want your friends and family to be at each other's throats.

Yea, hopefully Toys R Us doesn't take forever with shipping.

You have to get Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition. I guess you could rent it, but I advise buying it.
Also, Brawl. But you already seem to have your eye on that.
Other games that are pretty cool that I think would be worth your time (and which might not be thrown at you by every Wii owner on the internet) are Punch-Out!! and Wario Land: Shake It!
I don't need to play through Resident Evil 4 again. I've already played through it on the PS2 and I didn't care much for it. Sure, some of that was because of the aiming (something the Wii version fixes with the remote and actual crosshair), but I just don't have a whole lot of Resident Evil love.
Yea, the Walmart gift card could probably go for either Wii Sports Resort, Brawl, or taking half off of Wii Fit Plus.
That reminds me.... We'll need to get a USB internet adapter. Are you still limited to the official or third party Wii one or is it possible to use any old ethernet usb adapter?
these are my suggestions based on my collection and what i enjoy. i suggest checking out: zack & wiki, resident evil 4: wii edition, super mario galaxy, elebits, no more heroes and dewy's adventure. i would also get wii play or wii sports resort something your family might buy anyway!
sent via PC
Wii play is a piece of crap in my opinion, except one or two of the mini games and not even worth the extra $10 or so. Getting the wiimote, nunchuck, and motion plus for $60 was a better choice.
Speaking of which, is Wii Sports Resort only available with the motion plus bundle?

Pretty certain it's possible to buy Wii Sports Resort without the Motion+ bundled in. But I'm not 100% sure.

Yep, I see just the game listed on Amazon. We bought two of those controller bundles so I think only getting the game will suffice.
How is the difference with 480p on HDTV's? I might just spend a couple bucks at monoprice and get a cheap component cable.
Also like I was saying above, is there any way around not getting the official or third party lan adapters made for the Wii? If I recall from a year ago, ones not made for the Wii wont work.
I'd say as far as deals, check dealnews.com and amazon frequently. I'm pretty big on game deals as well (I almost never buy a game nowadays unless the price has been docked or is part of a deal), and those two sites have probably saved me hundreds of dollars on games in the past months.
For games, I know you said you're probably gonna stick with rented for the more hardcore games, but here are some games I think are essential buys:
SSBB, NSMB Wii, Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Zack and Wiki, Little King's Story, Zelda TP, Mario Kart Wii.
