People celebrated the millenium on January 1st, 2000 because they are idiots. Whether the masses beleive it or not does not make it true. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_zero#Third_millennium The millenium began in 2001, the decade does not end until 2010. Professional media shouldn't make this mistake, but sadly they do. |
Or you could just say bullshit to the years revolving around religion and use a standard method of following time, which is that when you reset back to zero it becomes the new time period.
When it's 00:01 (24h clock) or 12:01am do you still think it is yesterday just because it isn't 1 o'clock yet?
Just because there wasn't a year 0 according to religion, doesn't mean there was not a year before year 1.... which means it is a perfectly valid decade ending at the end of year 9.

Actually come to think of it, with recording years, there is no setting back, it is a continuous count upwards, thus the definition use of a Decade is just whichever is easiest to understand and use, that being the 40s, 50s, 60s etc.
(crossed out definition because a decade is any period of 10 years you like)
