Forums - Sales - DS Over 1.7 Million Last Week: What do We Make of This?

We'll get DS2 in fall/winter 2011, Wii 2 in fall/winter 2012. Nintendo had a DS2 variant ready for this fall and shelved it, they're going to wait a bit longer imo...

Yes but the experience is so limited with the small screen and weak sound.

Limited in what sense? Handheld games can convey any emotions that can be conveyed by console games, and tiny speakers don't take away from composition.

I don't feel very immersed or connected to the game when I play handhelds.

Maybe I have bad imagination lol?

Probably, and that's no one's problem but your own. People have been immersing themselves in video games since the days of the NES.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

The thing is beastly, what else is there to say? I mean the average DS user has more than one and always wants another. What other product has such power over the consumer even in the recession?

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

Dinners at fancy restraunts can be quite expensive.

Women love a man who can cook, and so does your pocketbook. Just sayin'...

Then you are a "consumer" of the restaurant not your girlfriend. I'm happy to hear that. It'll be even nicer if you had a girlfriend who didn't need to go to fancy restaurants to stay happy.

That largely depends on the game you're playing. If you're playing something like an FPS on handhelds the experience isn't as good as consoles. But if you're playing something like an RPG, especially one with a good story, it can immerse you as much as a console game. TWEWY is still my favorite game this gen and it's on the DS.

Meh, I can't play games "on-the-go". I'd rather listen to music.
