Forums - Sales - DS Over 1.7 Million Last Week: What do We Make of This?

If we're the gaming media, we make the numbers somehow vaguely imply that Nintendo is beleaguered and therefore doomed.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

I feel it's just awkward that a handheld can sell so much. I wish it was the Wii who sold so well, or some other home console.

Why? Handhelds are more easily accessible.

Yes but the experience is so limited with the small screen and weak sound.

Limited in what sense? Handheld games can convey any emotions that can be conveyed by console games, and tiny speakers don't take away from composition.

I don't feel very immersed or connected to the game when I play handhelds.

Maybe I have bad imagination lol?

The 1.7 million for the week is extremely impressive. Even more impressive considering how much it rose from the previous week. While there are other important factors, I think after seeing the success of the DS and PS3 during Black Friday, that there will be a lot more Black Friday bundles in the future.

It means price matters, and lots more DS sales are ahead especially with price drops.

The console in your avatar begs to differ.

How far is the DS to reach the PS2 numbers?
