Forums - Sony - Vgchartz ranking game--Uncharted 2!!!!

There are games that are much less polished, that I enjoyed more. If there were a checklist of what makes a game good, U2 would get a perfect score. Graphics, gameplay, story, etc. On a purely technical it's as close to perfect as I've ever seen. Something feels missing, though. I can't put my finger on it.

Final Score: 9.9/10

It (PS3's market share) might hit 30%, but definently not more. ~ Neo

10/10 The only game that has ever made me question if I liked it more then a metel gear solid game. The game is just such amazingly fun and has an unbelievable amount of polish. It's hard for me to find any drawbacks that would knock it down although I know that they exist. No game is perfect, and neither is Uncharted 2. But It's as perfect as a game could be, to me, at this point in time. And that to me is what a 10/10 is. Everything from the single player to online competitive and cooperative modes gave me more joy then perhaps any other comparable game in each and every aspect. The graphics were unbelievable, the story was ingenious, the gameplay was fun and polished to a mirror shine, the set pieces were unbelievable, the online is addictng. Every praise I can see myself giving to a game, I would throw Uncharted's way. Perfection is something beyond reach. But in comparison to what CAN be accomplished and in relation to every other game out on the market at this time, this game is a 10 out of 10.

+Very good gameplay visuals (steady framerate and great texture work), funny script, fluid animations, entertaining and adrenaline pumping from start to finish, fairly good online.

-Prerendered cutscenes that consequently offer zero interaction and customisation, the story is basically the first one all over again with little to no additions, not very interesting boss fights, almost entirely scripted, surprisingly buggy ( a couple of times in my first playthrough i had to restart the checkpoint due to Drake beeing stuck in enviroment).

Overall one of the great games on PS3, just like the first.

Wasn't there a rule stated in some other thread a 10 score had to be detailed or it wouldn't count?

If that's the case, here are my reasons for giving it 10/10:

  • The graphics are the best I've seen on a console to date.
  • The storyline is engaging, exciting and easy to follow.
  • The chemistry between the characters is absolutely amazing.
  • The online feels as good as the single player campaign, matching the experience from Uncharted: DF and Uncharted 2: AT.

There are more, but I don't really feel like listing them all out.

The game isn't perfect, but it is the best game I have played to date. On that basis, I consider it a 10/10 (or the perfect game for me so far).

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

The best game I have played this year, one of the few games I had to pause just because I couldn't believe games this good, stories and Hollywood acting and conversation can be done this amazingly.
The characters said the right thing at the right times, and were funny.

The only minus is I just sometimes feel weird with the shooting controls.

If it was possible for me to give out 10's, this game would get it. It's just epic.

9.9

Pros

  • Awesome graphics and scenery
  • Melee combat was improved
  • No more sixaxis for grenade aiming!!
  • Great blends with gameplay and cutscenes. This was a fantastic cinematic experience that puts MGS4 to shame.
  • Great gameplay and good controls
  • Good story and lovable characters
  • Great sound effects, voice acting and the music was okay.
  • Lots of great moments like the tank battle and train level.
  • Stealth addition was nice. You got a choice to quietly take out a few enemies before going rambo or whatnot.
  • Co-op is fun

Cons

  • Guardians were stupid. They take so much damage, and you have no idea if you're hurting them or not. When I first encountered it, I used up a whole clip, and I wondered if I was doing the right thing or using the right weapon.
  • Fighting multiple guardians. It was annoying that you had two guardians running around and one with a grenade just waiting for you. It was just plain annoying.
  • Cover system was annoying, especially in tight areas.
  • AI was kind of stupid, especially in the museum part. The stealth there felt very scripted.
  • Puzzles were disappointing, and they practically give you the answer. I took a while to find a way to climb the statue, so I can move around his arms. When I got up there, a message appeared saying to match the arms position with the ones in my journal. Pretty stupid. The other puzzles had the similar thing.
  • Boss battles, for the most part, sucked. The last boss was annoying, especially with the grenades. The train guy was so lame.
  • I agree with twesterm about picking up weapons/ammo: sometimes when I wanted to pick up ammo, Drake would pick up a different weapon because it was lying right next to it. This stuff happened with multiple weapons throughout the whole game. It was frustrating.
  • Multiplayer: Matchmaking was terrible. Sometimes it would take a while to find players. Also when I first played multiplayer, I got paired up with a bunch of people ranked in the 30s, 40s. WTF? Can't you pair me up with someone with the same level as me? And another thing, sometimes the teams would be unbalanced. You don't know how many times my team consisted of 1 - 17s, while the other team consisted of 23 - 40s. Terrible stuff there Naughty Dog.
  • Penalty system = bad. If I got disconnected, I would still get penalized. There were many times where I wanted to quit because I got paired up with higher leveled players. Because of the poor matchmaking and penalty system, I quit playing Uncharted 2's multiplayer. It pretty ruined my enjoyment on the multiplayer.

The last parts of the game were extremely annoying, but overall I enjoyed the SP campaign. ND just needs to work on some of the online stuff. It's my favorite game this year, but 2009 kind of sucked for gaming, imo.
