Forums - Sony - MAG recieves a TEEN rating from the ESRB

i find this interesting, this game gets a teen rating in the USA

i believe MAG will probably end up on the "index" in germany, meaning that it can be sold, but not advertised or even openly shown in s store, due to its "violent" contents.

On the other hand, i doubt that Heavy Rain will end up on the index in germany for its strip scene, but that vice versa is what might enrage the US-Public.

i am not judging any moral standards here, just trying to point out the differences :D

It might be because MAG isn't as violent as Call of Duty.  MAG seems to only blood puffs while Call of Duty's violence is fairly graphic.  Heck, Uncharted 2 had blood in it and that got a way with the Teen rating.  ESRB seem to be calming down, atleast when it comes to violence.  The US seem to not mind violence as much as Europe wheres Europe doesn't mind sexual content as much as the US.  And that's nothing since Japan are even more lenient towards both with anime aimed at children containing a moderate amount of blood and mild nudity.  Like I said, despite many of the best selling games being M rated, the Teen rating is the best rating for maximizing profits.

Is CoD and Battlefield M or Teen? If this is rated lower (ESRB rating, not meta) than those games, that's somewhat surprising.

No, I believe both are rated M.

Hmmm... must not be any strong language and very limited blood/gore?  Otherwise I don't see how 256 people killing eachother in massive battles can be less than an M rating

I was surprised on how the language in games have changed, I mean inFAMOUS and Uncharted got away with a few S-bombs, which I was surprised to hear. Good to see MAG get the T rating it will help it's sales a lot which it really needs in order to be good.

There's not much blood at all in the beta. No bad language [except douchebags on mics]. Also, it's not like an online only game has gory cutscenes :P

Great news though. Opens the gate for a bigger audience.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Ratings mean nothing, teens are still gonna buy the games and no one cares.

MAG is one of the least violent FPS games I have ever seen, there's no rivers of blood and no brutal killing animations so I understand the T-rating.
