Retail stores are the ones Sony has to sell the machine to. You are not their customer, Gamestop/WalMart/Target/Best Buy is. Any publisher has no way of knowing how many their products have sold at retail unless they're quoting the actual retailers or any of the fine tracking services (NPD, Media Create, Gfk, VGC, etc.)
