Forums - Sony - *RUMOR* Ability to play PSP games on the PS3 coming.

That would be stupid.

There's a reason Nintendo hasn't put Gameboy era titles on VC and has distinctly different download options between DSi and Wii. You don't want to make your products obsolete. You want that Wii owner to go buy a DSi. Just as Sony should want PS3 owners to go buy PSPs.

actually, it doesn't seem like a bad business move for Sony. It instantly increases the potential purchasing base for PSP by 27m at no cost to publishers. Also, the PSP doesn't appear to sell very many games to start off with so people are buying the PSP for music/video/pirating (take your pick) so the ability to purcahse games on the PS3 may not hurt PSP hardware sales. In the end if PSP hardware sales aren't hurt badly, then it is a net profit for them.

However, generally I would agree that it would be a bad business move.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

That's different. Those are console games. Not freaking handheld games >_> I can't believe both of you made that comparison.

For example. I own both (psp and ps3) and i just got both Assanssin's creed. Do you think i would like to play the psp version having the ps3 one??

Imo is useless

OMG This would be amazing news if it proved true. Please let this be true.

PS: Please bring us PSP trophies Sony.
Goddamnit, I will buy a psp if they give me trophies.
This news won't even mean anything to me because I will gladly buy a PSP instead.
Sony DO SOMETHING!!!

You're assuming that Sony makes a lot of money from PSP hardware sales, and that's what drives them to sell PSPs and PSP software.

I think Sony makes most of its money, with PSP stuff, from PSP software sales -- this move increases the number of devices, in the field, capable of playing PSP games by over 50%.

I think people typically buy handhelds to play games portably, not just to get their hands on must-have games.  Anyone who was going to purchase PSP hardware purely for the titles available on it, probably did so already.

If this rumor is true, its a great move.

That is pretty awesome! It will expand the userbase for developers looking to create PSP games, and all the userbase gained is one that cannot pirate. This would also give Sony an excuse for not making the PSP2 BC with the first PSP, "Just play them on your PS3".

And we don't know when this will release. For all we know, it could launch alongside the PSP2 (and my money is on it not being BC), and I would much rather play the bunch of PSP games I want on my PS3 rather than a PSP. With the adhoc multiplayer made possible online through the PS3, you should be able to play multiplayer as well.

Honestly, there are very few games I wouldn't get on PS3 that I would have gotten otherwise, Motorstorm or Rock Band for instance.

Man this could be awesome!

You don't have to own a PSP to play PSP games.  That's the point.

I don't understand your last comment.  Why did you buy the PSP and PS3 version of AC, if you didn't intend to play them both?

Let me spell this out for you.

I don't like handhelds. They are cramped, have small screens and I have basically no use for gaming on the go. I would not buy a PSP or DS.

I would, however, welcome a bunch of games I've been wanting to play on the ps3 I already own.

If they were the same game, no. But the PSP game is a different entity, with a story of its own. I'd get all the Metal Gear Solid games from the PSP on my PS3, even though I already own MGS4. I'd also get God of War: Chains of Olympus on my PS3, depsite owning the Collection and will own GoW3 when it releases. There are only a few games that I won't get on PS3 that I would have gotten otherwise on PSP.

Of course i would play both. The psp one when im outside my house. The ps3 one when im in my house. I buy handheld games mostly to play when Im unable to play consoles
