Forums - PC - battlefield bad company 2 PC Initial details and Beta confirmed!

SOURCE

Hey all,

We wanted to update you, and slow the flood of tweets, on questions surrounding the BFBC2 PC Beta being cancelled.  I'll get right to it and say "the BFBC2 PC Beta is not cancelled".  Now this all started due to changes made to an earlier blog that removed the PC Beta from the details and the reason for this was the plan changed. With the huge success of the PS3 Beta we decided to drastically increase the PC Beta's capacity to insure as many people as possible could participate.  Unfortunately this meant we had to delay the Beta to very early next year giving us more planning time to make it happen and implement more optimizations.

Here is a recap of the current PC features, and we can now confirm DX11 support with more details to come later!

PC Enhanced Features

  • Up to 32 Players on PC (24 on consoles) - Play with up to 32 players online in the biggest multiplayer Maps in Battlefield. Each with a different tactical and gameplay focus set across a variety of environments.
  • Full DirectX 9, 10 & 11 Support - Immerse yourself in the Battlefield world as Frostbite engine brings tanks, helicopters and explosions to vivid life on your PC. The game will fully support Windows XP, Vista, and 7 with new tech that further improves things like lighting and shadows.
  • Enhanced Gameplay - The PC version also includes wide peripheral support like Joysticks for flying, NVIDIA 3D Vision, Logitech LCD Keyboards and VoIP Support plus a variety of specific features tailored for PC play.
  • Friend Support - Find your friends online with the new buddy list to see if and who is online so you can quickly join their game.
  • Dedicated Ranked Server - Everyone gets non-stop action with no connection penalties based on some other player's internet. Ranked Server Provider program will give players opportunity to rent their own server(s) located in professional grade datacenters, ability to modify settings like map rotation, create reserved slots for friends or clan members, kick & Ban players, and custom name your ranked server.
  • Clan Support & Private Servers - Independent Clan Tag, and ability to rent servers for hosting and controlling private password protected competitive servers with expanded control over the settings from public ranked servers.
  • PC Squad Play System - Updated from previous Battlefield PC titles now gives control of your squad before heading into combat.

OHH so excited to see this will be a good PC battlefield game vs a crappy PC port of a console FPS. I would have liked slightly more than 32 players, but 32 is definitely doable. Thank you DICE for not copying Activision and for EA for staying out of their way.

Can't wait for BF3 and a ground up PC Battlefield. :)

Can't wait to play this on my crappy laptop!

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

The Beta is fun, but it was only one map though different layouts, anyone with a PC (Lolwut?) now should jump in the beta and have fun. its a pretty good game and have better layout that BC1

BF3 is going to be so much better though :-/

I really want to check this out on PC.

Bad Company 2's beta makes me really want to see how Battlefield 3 would work with the Frostbite engine with more players and vehicles.

It'll be really nice if they could make a game with Frostbite, but with more open maps, and by open I mean there are more fronts.

Even in conquest in BC1, it just seemed like the level was 2D. You have certain flags and sides, and the teams just clash in the middle, head on.

I have no complaints about that for the Rush gameplay, but even in small scale, it frusturates me how people and teams don't think of the big picture and about flanking and battle fronts. In the Atica Harbor, the biggest challenge for the Attackers are in the beginning, since it's kinda like D-day. You have to go up there by vehicle, the enemy have a small front to cover and can concentrate their forces there.

The attackers need to realize how they need to go at the same time with vehicles (C4 laden jeeps and Tanks) and pierce through the solid defense and leave the rest to the ensuing chaos and reinforcements, or that they need to get infantry up first, through the sides, and then do a pincer attack with the tanks and RPGs.

The defenders have to realize that they need to watch the sides, and to fucking use their terrain advantage. Even though they have 2 tanks, the 3 tanks of the attackers have no cover at all, and no infantry support really, while the defenders have infantry right next to the tanks. The defenders need to take down the UAVs as soon as possible, as that can get beyond the terrain defenses.

I just wish the game spelled out to the players the importance of flanks and keeping an orderly battle line. Everyone just clumps to one point, and doesn't take fucking cover.

I'm not asking for Full Spectrum Warrior, but a little common sense...

I was thinking more in line with my experiences playing Battlefield 2 and having 64 players (dedicated servers ftw...). Since I don't think there are many details of Battlefield 3, I'm currently just thinking that it'd be kind of like Battlefield 2, but now using the enhancements of the Frostbite engine.

@Akvod- That's right, they patched Conquest into Bad Company 1 didn't they? It probably doesn't help that the maps were designed for Bad Company's rush gameplay mode. Compare that to Battlefield 2's large maps where the fighting can take place all over due to all the vehicles and number of control points (ex- Gulf of Oman) or in large choke points that the attacking team has to find a way past to start pushing inward (ex - Strike at Karkand)

Maybe they should take out things like fences exploding if you hit it with the knife.... lol
