50 hours and sidequests is plenty long for me. I'm going to shut myself in my room when this comes out and not appear for days xD

Holy sh*t, Toriyama (FF13's directer) says that even if the other characters are alive, if the party leader (the character you are controlling) dies in a battle, you get a Game Over. Oh man, its going to be P3 all over again.

Uh oh. Somebody kill this mechanic. Kill it with fire. It's annoying in KH, it's annoying in Persona...don't bring it into more series.

But the heal HP after every battle thing is a feature more RPGs should have. This gives them an excuse to up difficulty too.

This is a great feature.  FFXIII will be the first well reviewed JRPG to use this mechanic.  We won't be wasting MP and it will balance out the difficulty since FFXIII is suppose to be harder than previous games in the series.  I cannot tell you how useful this mechanic would have been in FFXII.  It is similar to another mechanic in Dragon Age Origins where your characters will gain back HP if you stand around without doing anything.

Hoopefully FF XIII makes this standard. Baten Kaitos Origins and TWEWY used it first and they were good because the games were tough and no more worrying about healing outside of battle.

Does FF XIII let you restart a boss battle if you lose it without watching a cutscene or anything (just a "Try Again" thing)? That's one of the mechanics both Baten Kaitos games and TWEWY use too.

I remember Wild Arms 2 using that mechanic as well. It would be wonderful if FF13 does use that mechanic.

I'm actually expecting a Xenogears level storyline from this game. I have a feeling it will deliver on that. The premise of FF13's storyline is pretty damn amazing.

You should lower your expectations because Xenogears's story is considered to be in a league of its own.  I am not saying you shouldn't expect a great story because it is looking to be great but don't expect something along the apparent quality of Xenogears.

@loves2splooge

FFXIII looks to have soul and charm in several ways.  The melodrama is practically part of its soul and charm.  Melodrama has been an FF staple since FFIV.  It probably took people some time to notice it do to the lack of voice acting at the time.

I know that Xenogears' storyline is in a league of its own (IMO its has the greatest storyline ever in an jrpg). But like I said before, the premise of FF13's storyline is really awesome and it already makes it seem like FF13's story will be much better then any other FF game. I'm expecting alot. I'm sure it will deliver aleast one of the best storylines I'll see in a jrpg.

@ Soriku

It looks like you got what you asked for. Toriyama (FF13's directer) said that in FFXIII there won't be an escape command for battles, instead if you die in battle you have the option to "restart" at the point before you entered into the battle.

Damn, this game is going to be awesome. Not only does your party fully recover after every battle but now if you die you will have the option to restart the battle. This completely makes up for having a GAME OVER if you party leader (the character your controlling) dies. Toriyama also said that FF13 will be harder then other FF games so things won't be easy. It looks like FF13's battle system won't be a chore like FF8 and 12's battles systems were.

Hmm, so the casualization of the series continues?

What's next, an annoying talking fairy to give you hints?!

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

BTW did any of you grind in FF10?

I didn't reall have to, I didn't have to in FF7, or FF9 as far as I can remember

FF12 on the other hand.....lol

I have 1 word for you: Penance. There was no way to beat this guy without grinding the shit out of your characters. By the time I was facing him, magic, summons and all that other crab was obsolete. Lulu's little puppets could do 99,999 damage in one hit.

I'm actually pretty satisfied with 50-60 hours for the main plot. I don't think any of the main series games have taken me that long to play through. Plus by the way it sounds, with all the sidequests and extra bosses it should take well over 150 hours to complete. That's more than good enough.

Not exceptionally long for a FF game, just about right imo!

WAT

The only game ever that is considered comparable to Xenogears is Planescape: Torment, and the only game in the DVD era that had a really complex story was Xenosaga III (combined with the stories of I and II).

Plus, they CAN'T have a story this complex in FF13, it WON'T SELL.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

So FFXIII's plot is shallow?  That's suprising since the story is heavily focused on character emotions.

Is this for the west too?

if it is TERRIBLE TIMING

Its sandwitched between

THE NEXT FINAL FANTASY!!

THE NEXT GRAN TURISMO!!

& some hack n slash game!

LMAO @ "& some hack n slash game!"

its more then just a hack and slash game, its going to sell more then final fantasy 13 (in america)

i feel bad for all those games being released around God of War 3

Its going to decrease sales for Final Fantasy, gran turismo, and now MGS peace walker.

I was being sarcastic

but ROFL ROFL ROFL @ your predictions

GT5 will destroy GOW3 sales in america

FF13 will do far better than it in America too

If anything God Of War is gonna get compromised over the big brand franchises FINAL FANTASY & GRAN TURISMO!!!!

LMAO ofcoarse you were sarcastic!!!

those predictions are way off (in america)

my predictions are:

final fantasy will sell better then GOW and Gran in japan.

Gran will sell better then GOW and FF13 in Europe.

GOW3 will sell better then Gran and FF13 in America.

what does everyone think about those predictions?

FF10 sold 2.7 Million in NA

FF7 sold 3.1 Million in NA

I see FF13 doing 3 - 4 Million in NA alone (remember this is PS360 combined)

GOW 2 sold around 1.8 Million in NA.....GOW 1 around 2.7 Million

I see GOW 3 doing around 1.8 - 2.5 Million in NA.....so BEATEN by Final Fantasy

GT5 should so 2.5 - 3 million in NA

well i dont think youv'e seen the pre-order chartz, (the american pre-order chartz)

GOW3 is on top at #1 so things are looking sad for FF13. and nen-suer makes a good point.

im talking about the ps3 sales because it wouldn't be fair to add the (less then 1mil) red-box sales (LMAO)

your logic is incorrect and seems more like a bias opinion towards FF13.

by the way it looks like GOW3 will probably sell between 3.5mil and 4.5mil (total)

FF13 will probably sell 1mil to 2mil (in america) and (ps3 sales)

FF13 will probably sell .5mil to 1.25mil (in america) and (360 sales)

GOW3 has 126,000 preorders and FF13 only has 43,000 preorders with both consoles combined and they come out at the same time.

FF13 is really sucking with preorders, it just wont sell good.

and gran is way behind on preorders with only 28,000 preorders.

maybe its because FF13 just isn't going to be a good game like GOW3

also FF13 weekly sales change is only 5,000 and GOW3's is 35,000.

the winner is clearly GOW3, by a long shot.
