Blu Ray barely performs (it's too slow) to meet specs needed for HD. When Nintendo does HD, they are going to do it right. Probably holographic storage.

you sure about that?

Yes, the speed of data transfer isn't consistent (inner vs. outer tracks or something if I remember correctly).  Anyways, that is why many games require rather large installs on the PS3, or at least have them as optional.

It must be nice to just make shit up and post it as facts.

Incorrect the read speeds are lower but that is because they are reading 5x the data than a DVD actually reads. So it balances out, most games load faster on ps3 vs. 360 on multiplats because of this feature.  Also only multiplatform games tend to have installs; 1st party games barely have any load times (see uncharted, infamous, killzone 2, etc).  Back on topic, I believe they will use a ROM of either media (Blu-ray or DVD).  The SD card / cartridge theory will only get them less support by third parties; I do believe that they may actually stay with the old DVD format, this is the only way they could easily stay backward compatitable. Microsoft has proven that if you have a decent scaler in your hardware then you do not have to actually have the game on the disc support native HD standards.  This may be the way the next nintendo product achieves HD resolutions and whatever control method they choose.

The PS3 uses a 2x BD drive, which is 72Mbits/second or 9MB/second. The Xbox360 uses a 12x DVD, which gives it about 16MB/second. What is made up or incorrect?

I think HD is a given but it won't simply be a HD Wii. It'll be an evolution to make gaming or video entertainment/lifestyle products even more mainstream. With MS coming out with Natal and Sony testing 3D gaming it'll be interesting to see what Nintendo does to disrupt those evolutions.

Whatever it is... it'll be fun.

Pretty clear that next gen will offer motion controls and HD for all 3 systems, so Nintendo needs to do something to make people choose their system over the competition. So, obviously they will have to innovate yet again to keep ahead of the pack.

2x Blu-ray Drive (72Mbps(9MB/s))
Single Layer (2x CLV) - Constant Linear Velocity (Same speed across entire disk)

Entire Blu-ray Disk is read at 9MB/s.

12x DVD-Rom Drive SL (9.25MB/S-15.85MB/s(AVG ~8x(10.57MB/s) DL (4.36MB/s-10.57MB/s(AVG ~6x(7.93MB/s)
SL(DVD-5) 12x Max (5-12x Full CAV) - Constant Angular Velocity (Speed Varies from edge to edge)
DL(DVD-9) 8x Max (3.3-8x Full CAV) - Constant Angular Velocity (Speed Varies from edge to edge)

Speeds vary on DVD drive and can go as high as 9.25 mb or as low as 4.36 mb (dual layer) for 360

consistant speeds across the Blu-ray and can go as high as   9mb for the PS3 (consistantly).

1.5 MBps should be enough to play HD.
