OK, picture this.................... Would the ps3 have sold as well as it did recently if it was the fat ps3 that was reduced to $299?

Hats off to Sony........ announce a price cut and a new slim ps3 model all in one swoop. (hence maximising hype, new design blah blah blah)

Hats off to Microsoft too, theres no way sony would have resorted to desperate tactics like releasing a slim version of the ps3 long before it was due if it was not for the 360 taking the ps3 to school in sales last year.

Question is.......... what if Microsoft released a 360 slim? Shameless rip off yes (Achievements/trophies people, yes, sony steal too, before you have a go, people rip people off, sony are masters at this) but look what it did for ps3 sales.

Would a 360 slim with Microsofts advertising muscle put sony even further behind in sales this gen when compared to the 360?

a 360 slim with reliability and a price cut might put playstation out of business lol, either way its ok to copy, copiing is what makes the world go round =p

I think slim 360 will do wonders for the console, but one would have to wonder about where the harddrive would go, and heating issues.

Yes it would, its all about the price.

PS3 was taking it to school in sales untill MS made a price cut dude. 

MS wont, they lack the hardware experience to pull it of.

It's ALL about price? hhhmmmmmmm, sony's slims and psx ect have led to BIG sales boosts, surely the ps3 been advertised not just with a cost reduction but with a NEW model contributed to more sales?

"M$ lack the hardware experience" haha thats funny. Honestly it wouldnt be completly up to microsoft it would be up to their semi conducting partners to make the chips quiet and cool enough to be able to operate with smaller fans and heatsinks.

Yes a 360 slim is possible but the slim part doesnt really matter. its the price cut that really spurs the sales. Had the PS3 slim arrived at $399 instead of $299 sales would not have picked up very much. Its the price that matters. And yes we will see more price cuts from all sides in order to keep increasing sales.

Slim 360 would never happen. It would discriminate against existing XBox 360 owners. HDDs with existing X360s would be incompatible with a Slim 360. "Slim" is a Sony tradition. Microsoft has Project: Natal up its sleeve for 2010 which will take the video game industry by storm. Microsoft is currently business as usual and will sell between 9 and 10 million for 2009.

Sony behind the 8 ball and had to release PS3 Slim with $299 price tag a year early. Game developers and consumers demanded it. PS3 will end up selling around 12 million for 2009- narrowing the worldwide sales gap with the 360 to 5 million units. But it is too little too late. PS3 hardware losses for first three years totals 4 to 5 billion dollars. Wii currently 30 million units+ in front of the PS3 and the gap is growing all the time.

Second place finish will mean absolutely nothing. PS3 is getting its ass kicked by the Wii. Sony with PS3 is the real loser this generation. No questions about that. PS3 Slim = short term sales numbers gain, but it is too little too late. PS3 no longer PS2 B/C.
