Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft plans shock Shock 'N' Awe In 2010

Microsoft can hype this all they want. Facts are without hardcore games for it, and a reasonable price it will not do well. With as much as they are hyping this, and I think it's a fantastic piece of equipment, I genuinely don't see it surpassing 2 million. Wii has the casual gamers wrapped around their finger.

This is a classic post to save!

^^^ When was the last time you had these many developers working on projects to specifically support an basic accessory? Ubisoft jsut announce today that they are working on 10 Natal games...Nearly every major Japanese developer is working on a Natal game. This is about whether you PERSONALLY like motion controller or not, this is about the real potential impact on gaming.

Geez they're hyping NATAL like the 2nd coming of Jesus. If it fails it will be one of the biggest flops in gaming history.

I wish the 360 well but I'm sick of hearing about NATAL.

Damn I wish I had Splinter Cell Conviction...

This isn't the first time stuff videogame related of other companies has been hyped like the 2nd coming of Jesus, mind you.

Oh of course not, I remember the hype for SSBB, Killzone 2, GTA4, Halo 3, etc.

I think this is the most hype an accessory has ever gotten though. They're treating what is basically an advanced eye toy as a new console launch.

When you think about what's been shown, even that's an understatement.

Well yeah highly advanced, I'll admit that. Its a lot better then the eyetoy.

I have a feeling Natal may end up being a solid product that MSFT ruins with talking it up.

"Replacing remotes"
"New generation arrives"

It seems like MSFT which did so much right this gen so far by selling better than expected in japan, dominating the states and doing well in Europe may start suffering from what happened to sony during the transition between the PS2 and PS3. Bubble world arrogance.

Its eerily similar to what Sony execs were saying before the PS3 where they just expected any "playstation" product to sell buttloads. I feel like MSFT is assuming to ride the coat tails of the Wii a little bit here and is just assuming everyone wants any type of motion or something.

Didnt Sony try and do a campaign called Shock @ Awe but thought better of it?

Actually I found the link  http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2003/apr/10/games.Iraqandthemedia

2009 was terrible for 360. Only like 2 exclusives came out on it.

It may be the worst for "Hype and Buzz" but financially it isn't. And I'm guessing that is what matters most to Microsoft.

As for next year it should be better than this one without a doubt.

LOL...well yeah...Sony loses 600+ million, and people are cheering about how well it's doing, so it's not about money for some.

Yeah, gamers. For those people, it's a good thing to get their hands on a console at less than the cost of the quality components it's made from.  ;)

Re: shock and awe.  Price cut plus Natal should be enough, or at least a 'virtual' price cut meaning they keep the same price on 360 but include Natal bundled with the console for no additional cost, and making Natal units cheap for current 360 owners to purchase.  Basically I don't think the results will be that astounding unless the value proposition of buying a 360 becomes more favorable vs. PS3 than it currently is.

They should ALSO release a SLIM 360. That will ABSOLUTELY feel like a new console launch. Just like PS3 slim and the price drop, a very strong one-two punch that even people who owned a fat ps3, repurchased the Slim. I'm sure that in America, land of the 360, a lot of 360 owners would repurchase a slim 360

Yeah and next near they will make Billions on everything. I can see huge advertising.
