Forums - Sales - Ubisoft Reports $117M Loss On Sales Drops, Catalog Discounting

^^^ no games released, but they are spending quite a bit of dough.

That happens when you're developing games and not releasing them yet, thats the main reason Square has lost money, spending a butt load for a few games and they don't release till after some reports come in.

I'm wondering what is the position of the people discussing these sales from Ubisoft, and if they are in a qualified position to make accurate assessments on the business practices.

Insulting shovelware bombs, news at 11. Make something worth buying Ubi and Wii owners (*shock* *awe*) will buy it. Hell, they'll even buy stuff not really worth buying from you if the right carrots are dangled (Red Steel, Rabbids, NMH).

Well, I don't know the internatl specifics of Ubisoft's operations, but in general from a coporate sense, you want to stagger releases to maintian a positive cash flow...

Red Steel 2 is imo the last chance for Ubi on Wii, it better be good and have a ton of marketing

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

It's simple really, the blame is because you need Wii.

See, it's simple, make Wii games to get free money to make big budget HD games and these games only see return if they are perfect for hardcorerers.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

People like to mock Ubisoft, but they're one of the few third party devs trying making a real effort on the Wii. Granted, they've released a lot of Imagine games and other crap, but they've also seen great success with the Rayman series, they're doing their best to make Red Steel 2 the success the first one should've been, and they had the balls to publish No More Heroes.

Aside from Sega and Capcom, I can't think of any major third party publisher that has done more for the Wii than Ubisoft.
