Forums - Nintendo - Should Square port FFXIII to Wii?

Having played Final Fantasy XIII, I would be EXTREMELY suprised if they could bring it to the Wii.

But if they can, then hey why not? More people get to play it, and sales skyrocket EVEN more. But, I mean, since Japan is the main domain for Final Fantasy, they should have had a simultaneous PS3, Wii release in Japan.

Actually FF sells better in Western markets and DQ is for the Japanese markets, thats not to say it sells bad but Japan loves their Dragon Quest way more :P While FF is a big series but gets more sells in the west.

I doubt they'd bother, not at this late stage. The HD consoles already have a large enough userbase and the costs of porting & releasing late would not outweigh the revenue from a late Wii port. If they'd started work on a Wii version much earlier to release with the HD versions then it could have been profitable, but not now.

You mean combined sales of the entire West right? Cause I checked some sales data. FFVII, VIII, IX, X, X-2 and XII have all sold more in Japan than any other single region.

But I do see your point, it may not be too late to port it if it could release alongside the western version.

Story also doesn't count for having no Story, like Wii sports/resort, play, fit or fit plus, Mario Kart Wii, Super Mario Galaxy or Brawl.

The only "core" Nintendo games that have a story are Zelda and Metroid, and guess what? Metroid Prime  3 sold a little bit more than HALF of what MP1 sold, on a console with two times and a half of the userbase, the difference between Zelda WW and TP is also small enough to prove your point wrong.

Again, MOST Wii owners don't care about the story in their games, if they would, they would buy the other consoles, with games that are CONFIRMED to have better story than most of everything the Wii has, instead of waiting YEARS for a game with a good story.

Wait...what? And HD owners suddenly do? Have you taken a look at some of the best selling HD games? Are Modern Warfare, Halo, GTA, Gears etc. what you call 'story heavy' games?

FF is a JRPG and no JRPG this gen has even hit 1 mil yet.

Face it, most of the big games on consoles aren't story heavy. Look at the DS too - most of its big games are casual but it can sell plenty story heavy games fine.

There is a higher precentage of HD owners who care about story in their games, than Wii owners.

A much higher precentage, as you can see in the difference between Valkyria Chronicles and Fire Emblem 9 (I think that's the new one, right?).

And as will be evident in the difference between ToG and ToV.

AND @coberati:

That's why I said MOST, not all.

how about I just put an end to your stupidity.

PS2 has sold what 130million consoles by now.  now FFXII sold what like 6million or something. that is less that 5% of userbase who baught it.

OH NO PS2 does not have a userbase that wants story driven games.

See how stupid that is?

When a console becomes the most wanted in a generation it brings those people who are casuals (as you call them).

So for Wii sure the userbase is huge, but there is still a good 5-10million audience who would appreciate a deap story game.

So if some lazy ass developer actually made one it would get the sales it deserves. Assuming they advertise it and not put it away in the back with only 1 copy per store. Like most third party games.

eg OKAMI is one example I had to buy it online because it was not availablee in stores here.

COD:WaW I had to go to 10 stores to find a copy of it.

so what chance do any third party gmes have if all the shelves are covered with crap?

Don't say people cna buy online, cause most people are retail store shoppers. They will buy their kids what is on the shelf not what is online.

Honestly now, a port wouldn't sell that much...at least not enough to port it I think. A new FF XIII game would do so much better on the Wii, given that they actually treat it as an A level effort and is made by an A level team with A level marketing.

I don't think this would work too well either, since most of the audience that gives a crap is already on the HD Twins.

That's why Nintendo is handling the marketing for DQIX and DQX in the west, you know? They have to be able to create an audience for buying these games.

I want to go back to the point where we started this argument:

It makes no sense to port the game to the Wii because FF is a brand that sold not because of it's gameplay, but MOSTLY because of it's great production values.
If the game was a Wii exclusive from the start it would make some kind of sense, but porting a game, thaat a lot of it's success is due to it's production values, to a console whose specs are much lower.

(And I give up on the story point here, it's obvious that we both look on the subject from our point of view, and that are a lot more points to consider).

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

You're right about not porting FFXIII, but for all the wrong reasons.

But yes

It makes no sense to port FFXIII to the Wii

True.

They should remake DQ VII on the Wii.

They should remake DQVII and do some other spinoffs leading up to DQX.  A DQ Swords sequel with Motion+ support seems like such an obvious move I'm shocked it hasn't been announced already.  Or a conversion of DQ Monsters: Battle Road.  Or a new DQ Mystery Dungeon game, hell they already have the engine for Chocobo Dungeon to reuse.

They'll probably do at least some of that, and probably rerelease DQ1-6 on the Virtual Console.

I would rather they just work on Versus or whatever their next project is. But I can understand others wanting to get to play it...

i think didnt they downgrade ff13 when they decided to do a xbox360 version?? and the xbox360 uses the exact same discs as the wii. buti think what they should do is re release ff12 on wii. i just think if marketed right any RPG game would sell like hotcakes on wii. i mean look at FF4 on wiiware. there is an audience.
