Can we all come to an agreement then that the fact MGS2 gets the hate, is simply because of playing as Raiden, not Snake?

I'd rather play as Raiden with fixed controls and better story and plot than play as Snake with broken controls.

Correct me if I am wrong but I am pretty sure Raiden has became one of the series most popular charcters since MGS4
