Forums - Microsoft - Natal, the game changer? Not this gen.

PlayStation Eye

T.R.O....  I guess I better stop there and just report you for what you are.

I wouldn't buy Natal if it were coming from Sony unless there were some great games made for it, same with MS. Seems like a lot of 360 fanboys are already going to buy it regardless of software and to me that's just silly blind loyalty. Like most people said, it just seems silly to be jumping up and down swinging your arms and legs wildly around in order to play a game that's made for you to be lazy.

Need more info.

Someone either doesn't know what the Playstation eye is (web cam) or doesn't know what Natal is.
I'm going with both.
Anyway I don't see this pushing xbox sales that much. This will be an add-on for the xbox and will get that type of sales.
To me this is more about getting it out there and testing the waters ready for next box when we'll see what natal can do.

Also dodgeball is a tech demo so why do people seem to think it's a killer app or the only game that's ever going to be released for it?
I guess people want to spread hate about it by saying look at that. that's all it will do?

Not you NJ5

I think he may have been talking about me with that Dodgeball comment.  I mention my idea for a dodgeball game in pretty much every Natal thread there is :)  It would be a killer app for me personally though :)

I don't think anyone would call Ricochet a dodgeball game, considering the fact that the goal is the opposite of dodging.

JaggedSac I wasn't talking about you. I meant the game they showed at E3. Obviously I got the wrong name (probably the name you mentioned got in my mind).

The Wii isn't like that, really.

WM+ maybe, Balance Board kind of, but even then it's not so much aerobics.

Some here seem to be blind to the fact that this gen is way different then any other generation of consoles. You have the Wii, which is a slightly upgraded GameCube with motion controls that took video games by storm. And it didn't get a price cut until almost 3 years into its life.

Then you have the Xbox 360 and PS3, which launched in 2005 and 2006 respectively who in there 3rd year both had $300 consoles. That has never happened. Both of these were powerful consoles at launch.

All signs point to this generation being much longer than previous ones. And, with the right marketing, Natal can be a huge success. As mentioned above, if Microsoft "relaunches" the Xbox 360 with Natal, then every 360 sold at that point will have Natal support AND any current owners can by Natal as an addon.

So in a sense, a new generation starts BUT it's not like the other generations. Like the Wii, Natal will redefine how you play video games. And it could have a lot of success. On top of that, developers still have the luxury of a large install base they can make games for and at the same time build up Natal-centric games. It's really the best way to go to ensure success, and I've always thought the game industry needed to do this. Starting over every 5 years is rediculous for developers and consumers. It costs too much to make these games and too much out of pocket for most consumers to play these games.

But we'll see. Next year is going to be very interesting.
