This should be in the official thread.

^This^

Really what is the point of having an official thread if we get two to three threads a day about it anyways?

Because some of us don't want to sift through thousands of posts.

EDIT: Ok I just had a look at a few official threads and I was surprised at how small most of them are. I concede that I had preconceived notions of overly large official threads because of Smash Bros and a few others. From now on I’ll visit the official threads regularly. You converted me.

IMO Sony better add more money into their advertising, games like M.A.G., Heavy Rain, GT5, GoW III, The Last Guardian, Eyepet, FFXIII(if they bring the bundle here) and the PS wand really need to be shoved down NA's throat! LOL!

That is the point of official thread. Go on Gaf and you will see massive massive official threads

Edit: Woohoo! First Boutros now Dr. Grass.

They will, they've finally learnt how to advertise. Only problem is that they have a lot of 1st party stuff in Q1/2 to advertise but I'm sure GOW 3 will be the priority. It should beat Uncharted 2's numbers, 4 million+ LTD isn't out of the question at all.

They should advertise it every Monday night on RAW.

^that's actually a pretty good idea... then advertise on UFC PPVs..

I think that no other game on the PS3 so far have as much potential to score a mega-hit in America as God of War 3. America is the region with the most untapped potential for PS3 growth, and this game, with all the violence and action, is set to tap into the very large American core gamer market that likes blood in video games.

The God of War Collection and the subsequent black friday bundling was a good start for the marketing. It paves the way for people who have no idea what God of War is and makes the market for the 3rd installment bigger. I think they should bundle every PS3 with the collection all the way until March for more exposure.

The problem, however, about marketing this type of game is that you can't really make ads about all that violence. They'll need to tone it down except for the internet perhaps. I wonder what kind of print and TV ads they'll make about this.. I shudder to think that they can possibly put the "tear the sun god's head with your bare hands" scene on TV, but I'm sure that'll sell a lot of copies. I think that they should bite the bullet and be as controversially violent and bloody about the game as they can be.

You believe God of War 3 has greater potential to be a mega-hit than Gran Turismo?  Please explain why a single player only experience, which has an M-Rating, is going to be able to outdo the likes of Modern Warfare 2, or Gran Turismo, which is the top franchise for driving sims.  I don't see it personally.  Is it because driving sims aren't what they used to be?

I also think there is a serious issue here regarding your view of God of War.  If a lot of people didn't know what God of War is, eventhough it was a critically acclaimed action game on the PS2, which has sold over 100 million units, how exactly is God of War 3 going to top Gran Turismo which outsold God of War in the past.  Please explain how this would happen.

Of course, Sony needs to market God of War 3.  I am curious to see how the Sony spokesguy will deliver his pitch on it.  Does he speak to Kratos?  Ok, THAT WOULD be interesting.  Maybe Kratos demands Kevin Butler plug his game, and Kevin then tries his best.  Kratos is unhappy and then threatens to rip Kevin's head off.  Kevin goes, "I would file that under anger management issues".

Please post some better ideas.  I think we may be onto something.  I will look to start another thread regarding this for ideas.

It may

but God Of War itself isn't a very big franchise

its not as big as mGS

FF & GT5 are much bigger.....SONY should advertise those

Sales:
God of War NA > MGS2 NA
God of War II NA > MGS3 NA

and God of War is a bigger franchise than FF on Playstation in NA, but look who am I talking to the guy who said FF13 will sell more than 10 mil.

The key words here are "in America".  GT4 didn't sell that much more than God of War in North America.  America is GT's weakest market by far when it comes to penetration and attach rates.  Meanwhile America is easily God of War's strongest market, performing even better than Metal Gear Solid, a franchise that boosted the ps3's sales 212% in North America the week of release. The God of War Collection will only further along the franchise's popularity in the region (though it will primarily effect those who already own ps3s).

God of War III will be the ps3's biggest system seller in North America yet, with only Gran Turismo 5 possibly outperforming it in the future.  But given that GT is more of a slow burning franchise than something like God of War or Metal Gear Solid, it probably won't have near as high an opening week as God of War III in the US.
