You believe God of War 3 has greater potential to be a mega-hit than Gran Turismo? Please explain why a single player only experience, which has an M-Rating, is going to be able to outdo the likes of Modern Warfare 2, or Gran Turismo, which is the top franchise for driving sims. I don't see it personally. Is it because driving sims aren't what they used to be? I also think there is a serious issue here regarding your view of God of War. If a lot of people didn't know what God of War is, eventhough it was a critically acclaimed action game on the PS2, which has sold over 100 million units, how exactly is God of War 3 going to top Gran Turismo which outsold God of War in the past. Please explain how this would happen. Of course, Sony needs to market God of War 3. I am curious to see how the Sony spokesguy will deliver his pitch on it. Does he speak to Kratos? Ok, THAT WOULD be interesting. Maybe Kratos demands Kevin Butler plug his game, and Kevin then tries his best. Kratos is unhappy and then threatens to rip Kevin's head off. Kevin goes, "I would file that under anger management issues". Please post some better ideas. I think we may be onto something. I will look to start another thread regarding this for ideas. |
The key words here are "in America". GT4 didn't sell that much more than God of War in North America. America is GT's weakest market by far when it comes to penetration and attach rates. Meanwhile America is easily God of War's strongest market, performing even better than Metal Gear Solid, a franchise that boosted the ps3's sales 212% in North America the week of release. The God of War Collection will only further along the franchise's popularity in the region (though it will primarily effect those who already own ps3s).
God of War III will be the ps3's biggest system seller in North America yet, with only Gran Turismo 5 possibly outperforming it in the future. But given that GT is more of a slow burning franchise than something like God of War or Metal Gear Solid, it probably won't have near as high an opening week as God of War III in the US.
