"And that's why the Wii doesn't have the software library expected of a market leader."

Selling better is the reason it doesn't have the library? Did you even pay attention to the context of the comment you replied to?

No, what I meant was that it's selling better in spite of not having "the library expected of a market leader".

In previous generations, the console with the most units in consumer homes had what was generably considered the best library amongst the masses. Most people obviously don't believe that it does, hence why it "doesn't get respect".

In previous (all) generations the console with the most units in consumer homes was that way because the masses generally considered it to have the best library.  This is always the case.  Wii is about to hit 60M and it's because most people obviously believe that it does have the superior library.  You might not and your gaming buddies might not, but you really need to quit speaking for everyone.  It gets respect from the masses, it doesn't get respect from the inner gaming circle's elite; aka: 16-24 year old males.

^ok then ironman, explain why everyone is harping over a Wii HD, when its obviously not needed, Wii is still outselling the PS2 at the same time in its life, with fewer price cuts

Really.........news to me. What was PS2's price in October 2003?

Edit: After not-so-extensive research, it seems that you are correct here, EXCEPT that the Wii is $20.00 cheaper than the PS2 was in October 2003.

Perhaps, but Wii will likely be at 199 longer than PS2 did, and Its probably likely that Wii will keep on selling higher than the PS2 throughout its lifetime, indicating that there is no reason for Nintendo to replace it

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

No respect for the Wii because the Wii has effectively neglected most of the values gaming media and "hardcore" gamers love.

No HD ready graphics, no high budget blockbusters to readily flock to, no DLC to buy, no hard drives, no DVD/Blu-Ray Players, no Netflix, no online community accounts, the lists goes on.

Personally, as a Nintendo game player, the Wii serves me quite well via a combination of retail games, Wiiware and the Virtual Console. As a game player, the Wii serves my arcade-style gaming desires. For others, it's another story.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Puhlease. The only difference between the Wii and previous Nintendo generations is the Wii-game lineup (Wii Fit, Wii Sports, Wii Play, etc.) Other than that, it's just upgrade stapled Nintendo games (Smash Bros/Melee/Brawl, SM64/Sunshine/Galaxy, Ocarina of Time/Wind Waker/Twilight Princess, MK64/MKDD/MKWii, etc), and a few 3rd party games sprinkled in every now and then.

I know quality is objective....but if you honestly believe the like of Wii Fit and Wii Music is makes the Wii library superior, well, please, let me have some of what you're smoking.

Have you ever stopped and thought about who plays what games? If you give a child a movie tie-in game of Cars, he'll think it's the bees knees. That's similar to how this whole blue ocean strategy is....doesn't mean that those booboo games = better library. Remember, Nintendo wants to get the "non-gamer" to play the Wii, so, in essence, they make "non-games" (if that makes any sense). The "gamer" is indeed the 16-24 year old demographic, and the "non-gamer" is everyone else....everyone else, as we all acknowledge, are non forum going, non-game researching people who will buy a game simply because they like the colors on the box art. You wonder why Game Party sold so much??? Game Party = superior now??

That's not what Nick wrote. "because most people obviously believe that it does have the superior library" He meant the mainstream. As in they think those games are better than a bunch of multimillion dollar games.

Nick is actually right. You go on rambling about all this but you are totally missing the point. Just hold on for a moment, take a deep breath and calm down.

You said it yourself, the console that sells the most has the best library in the eyes of the masses. In this case, the console that sells most is the Wii, thus, people think it has the best games. You may not think so. Fine. The majority of people on this website may not think so. That's cool. The vast majority of people who visit videogame-related websites may not think so. Well great. Doesn't change the point that, THE MASSES clearly agree Wii has the best library out of all current consoles. Or they wouldn't buy them.

'Harcore' gamers (Such as ourselves, videogame journalists, people who run game-related websites etc.) ARE NOT the masses. They (we) represent only a small portion of the entire population of people who play videogames. THE MASSES are, as you put it, the guys and gals who buy games because they 'like the colors on the box art'. The people who buy stuff like Chicken Shoot and Carnival games. YOU may not like these games (nor do I), but whether these games are any good or not in our eyes is beside the point. Quality is highly subjective to people's personal taste, and clearly THE MASSES prefer those kind of games over 'hardcore' games that we ourselves like.

You may think, for example, Wii Fit is crap (example). Clearly, 23 million others think otherwise. They think Wii games are good, and in fact better than what either the PS3 or 360 has to offer, however unbelievable that may seem to you. If that was not true, if THE MASSES really believed either of the HD consoles had 'better' games, in their opinion, then THE MASSES would've bought PS3s and 360.

The pubertal 15-19 yo "harcore gamer" will never love the Wii, because his sister has one. The so called "graphics whore" will never buy a Wii because it has no HD.

The rest of us don't want to miss the Wii, because it has some of the best games in this gen. All the real core gamers already have a Wii or will buy one in the next few month. The first and third-party Line-Up for the Wii is already very good and for 2010 it is fantastic.

You do realize that the majority of HD "core" games fit into the last half of that argument, right?

Halo, MGS, GTA, God of War, Resident Evil, tons more.... all fit into that "upgraded games" category. There's not much new, just prettier graphics, some new environments.

Just seems like a weird area to nitpick, as the top games on the HD systems are all in the same category as the ones you signal out.
